Building house set - CPC/Key West vs Sun-Fly/Ravenor Classic? (4 Viewers)

Good input. I had calculated for a 6 player 500 buy-in such as:
10x1
13x5
9x25
2x100

But I can see how having another 100 or so chips makes for a nicer chip distribution. I just want to avoid having a ton of unused chips (i.e. overspending :)).
Playing 1/2?
I think you will be doing a lot of change making. It’s alright if everybody is really good but most suck at that, which will slow everything down. I wouldn’t do any less than:

1 x 15
5 x 17
25 x 16
Rebuys with 100s

Here’s what I’d really do though:

1 x 25
5 x 25
25 x 14
Rebuys with 100s

Total (I still think you should plan for more than 6 players though):
1 x 150
5 x 150
25 x 100
100 x depends on how your game plays but probably at least 50

Good input. Starting to consider maybe 400ct minimum instead for more flexibility and peace of mind.

$1/$2, $200 max

15 x $1
17 x $5
4 x $25

For 6 players
90 (round to 100) x $1
102 (round to 200, as this is your workhorse) x $5
80 x $25
20 x $100

For rebuys, get the extra chips in play. The first rebuy is 10x$1 and 18x$5. Then the next two are 40x$5. Then 8 x $25 for the next 7 rebuys. Then start giving out 2 x $100 for the final 10 rebuys.

Total bank is $5100. 19 total rebuys is enough for each player to buyin 4 times.

If your game plays bigger than that, swap out a barrel of $25s for a second barrel of $100s. That'll increase your bank to $6600.

Correct me if I am wrong, but since Paulson is owned by GPI shouldn't their current products comply with U.S. CPSIA lead limits and similar international standards?

Best to go by likely manufacturing date.
Pre-1998 likely leaded
1998-2005 reduced lead era
After 2005 no lead
They do currently. But leaded chips still exist since they don’t just magically disappear

They don't?

What I mean is, if he wants Paulsons, buy from their current production. Avoid pre 2005 production and you should be fine since GPI have to comply with current national standards.

If you have the budget, Key West.

Also if your budget is tight, you should look at Tina hybrids and the broken Arrow vendor group buys - the majority of people here like them better than cards mold ceramics.
^^ This.

General rule of thumb for a single-table 10-player event is 400 chips for a 200bb stack tourney set and 600 chips for a 100bb buy-in cash set. For 6-players max, you can easily get by with 240 chips and 360 chips:

• 240-chip tournament set -- T100-base, six 20k starting stacks of 15/5/11/1, and 0/100 or 100/100 opening blinds:
90 x T100
30 x T500
90 x T1000 (includes color-up chips)
30 x T5000

• 360-chip cash set -- 1/2 stakes with $200 buy-ins (15/17/5), $5100 total bank:
100 x $1
120 x $5
120 x $20
20 x $100

39mm compression-molded clay Key West chips are $2.30 per chip plus shipping.

43mm ceramic hybrids from Broken Arrow (customs or existing designs) are 53c per chip and $80 label fee per order plus shipping. At one-third the cost of clay (and competitively priced with all other ceramic chip products), the 43mm hybrids from China offer a great value for your chipping dollar.

Appreciate the input! Since I'm based in Sweden we'll be playing with Swedish Krona as the currency, even though the chips may say dollars (which I'm perfectly ok with). The Swedish Krona is ~1/10 of a dollar, so we'll probably be starting with 1/2 blinds with 500+ buy-in. This makes it a little trickier since the set needs to support granular bets but also larger amounts. I guess 5/10 could be an option, but I like the general idea of more granular bets – but maybe I need to reevaluate that.

We’re saying the same thing. Buy something more recent. The issue is that you can’t buy directly from GPI*. So you need to do a little research (leaded chips are still in existence, just not currently being produced).

Your original statement was already covered earlier in the thread. I was just pointing that out since your comment seemed to be unsure.

$266/rack these days. Still a good deal imo.

I might do $5/$5 $500 buy-in with the set up being described. It’s so unlikely any bets beyond the blinds will be made with what amount to US Dimes with a $50 buy-in. Let’s you avoid the $1 chips.

That's the website price (2.66/chip) but PCF members receive a discount (2.29/chip).
So 229/rack

Received a fantastic sample set on loan from LeGold yesterday. Huge thanks & kudos, I'm blown away by the generosity to lend me some samples!

The set had a great mix of chips. From my POV my initial ranking is:
1. CPC (Key West plus some Horsehead mold chips) - great surface feel, great sound, feel very dense and high quality
2. Paulson - great surface feel, bit more hollow sound than CPC, I can see how people like these
3. Tina Big Top - overall impressive quality for being a lower-cost option. the chips were a bit smaller than the others. the edge spots were sometimes slightly misaligned, but all in all I see the appeal.
4. Sun-Fly Ravenor and Casino Royale - I admit I had high expectations, but these felt more plastic'y and slippery than the other options. I just wasn't super impressed, but I'm sure the durability is excellent.

I had heard and read a lot about CPC, and handling them just confirmed what people have written about them.
I also felt like somehow the higher quality chips worked their way into a secure grip in my hand, while the more plastic'y options always felt like they wanted to escape or slip out of my hands.

All in all I think I'm leaning toward trying to purchase some type of clay chips because they had superior feel and real edge spots, but a set of Tina chips could also be an option given the price point and availability.
