That smudging is fairly common amongst new black chips from what I’ve seen.

I saw it with both the BTP and some of the AS chips that I own.

GLWS, the BTPs are an instant Hall of Fame set in my eyes.

That looks like color transfer and not a "pulling" of the edge spots that can happen during production. Color transfer can be cleaned off. The "pulling" of color during production obviously can't be fixed.
