This stuff is hard and I know there are folks here who are a lot better at this than I am. I want to put together a 2-table tourney set w 50k starting stacks and let’s say 10 rebuys.

I was thinking T100/500/1k/5k/25k and each player starting with 10/8/10/2/1. For 18 players that would require:

T100 - 180
T500 - 144
T1000 - 200
T5000 - 36
T25000 - 18

First question, is that a reasonable 50k starting stack? Any other suggestions? Next I need some moar chips for rebuys (thinking 25k + 5ks and get change from other players, reasonable?) and for color up, and here’s is where I’m really struggling.

Would love some input on how many of each denomination I need. Thanks guys!

I would do 10/6/11/7. You can stick to 8/10, but the 500 chip is the least used chip. You could probably get away with just 4 per player honestly.

You can't use a single chip in the starting stack that is half the stack. If you do, you can run into situations where you can't break it from a single person at the table.

I'd make the rebuy stacks 5/1 (5k/25k).

I haven't run one in a long time but I've used 10-8-10-7 stacks in the past.

If I was doing it today I'd probably go 10-6-11-7 or even 10-4-12-7.

As mentioned above, you can do 10/8/10/7 or 10/4/12/7 starting stacks, but my personal preference is 10/6/11/7, and using T5000 chips for T100/T500 color-ups and T25Ks for the T1000 color-ups.

Cover the re-buys with six chips: 1x T25K and 5x T5000. If limiting it to one per player, you'll want to plan for up to a 33% re-buy rate (so 6 re-buys total in an 18-player field).

180 x T100
108 x T500
198 x T1000
171 x T5000 (includes 15x for color-ups and 30x for re-buys)
14 x T25000 (includes 8x for color-ups and 6x for re-buys)
--------
671 total chips, with 149-185 chips in play at tourney end.

Thank you all so much, this was exactly what I was hoping for!

Yeah I wouldn't put a T25K in the starting stack with only T5K. This is going to make these chips tough to break when necessary.

I think 10/4/7/8 is the bare minimum of T100/500/1000/5000

15/5/11/7 is probably better if you can swing it.

Yeah, having plenty of change would be nice but that requires a lot of hundos in the set. Lot to think about. Thanks

Got it, if 10/4/7/8 is what you can do, it will work.

But the big thing is putting T25ks in the stack with only 2 T5ks per stack in play will make change difficult

Thanks, hadn’t thought about the 25k causing change issues. Really just looking for an excuse to put them in play :) 25ks for the rebuys will take care of that then.

I’m not even a fan of having four colors in play (although it is usually necessary). Five colors in play would drive me nuts.

Have you thought of doing just T15K starting stack?
We get a small group of 9 players, usually. And blinds starts at 100-200. And usually by the time blinds hit 1000-1500, we change out the T100 and T500 chips.

1000/1500 blinds?

Nah, that’s too shallow for my taste. I will start with 100-200 but with a lovely 250bbs and 50k
