Ok, I know I am going to sound like a dumbass, but I am OK with that- what the heck is a bounty chip. I have read it is for an all in in poker i have also read it is what you get for eliminating someone else in a tournament. My question is in a REAL casino what are you going to get one of these chips for? Can you bet with them? And what can you get for cashing them in??

Real casinos use regular cash chips as bounty chips
Sometimes you'll see a tournament referred to as a "green chip" game. In that case, the cashier gives you a green $25 chip to use as a bounty. When you get to the table, you get your tournament chips. As you knock people out, you accumlate a pile of their green chips. And when it's over, you cash them in for cash.

I am a foreman in the electrical field and I was thought very early "the only dumb question is the one not asked" well it is not true! There are some seriously dumb questions!! Lol this sir is not one of them! If you don't know, that's what we are here for!

@FordPickup92 is correct. The idea is that in a tournament the top 2 - 4 are paid and everyone else is left with nothing, many times after hours of play! If a bounty is 20% of your starting value... you could knock out 5 players and atleast get your money back and be playing for free!

There are also occasional very high value bounties and they call it "Bounty hunting" basically the bounties are high enough value that the competition is gear towards taking others out as the main objective as opposed to out lasting the field.

In our area many times people donate single bounties collected to the host as a thank you for hosting! Also many of our events, when down to the button we all donate a single bounty to a pool for the "bubble boy" so they atleast get something for their efforts!

Correct, typically cash value chips. As inferred, if you get knocked out of the tournament, your bounty chip goes to the other player. But if you’ve got remaining bounty chips from players you have knocked out, you still get to cash them in (assuming you remember to grab them before you leave the table, I’ve seen a couple guys who take bad beats, go on tilt and storm away from the table leaving their collected bounty chips behind)

you can not use them for any kind of betting or trade at the table in tournament play. Authentic Bounty chips aren’t as common at people’s home poker tourneys, so if you want to play with bounties, you can improvise and use something unique. I use POGS slammers. something unique to me I know people won’t randomly bring one to the table from their own stash and try to cash out bounties that were never paid for in the buy in.
but hopefully you get honest people at your home games who would never do that

Thus reminds me of an old Benny Hill joke: "I know you've got a right to be ignorant, but you're just abusing the privilege!"
