In a mixed cash game with holdem and 7 stud type mix of games do you use antes or blinds?

Normally you would change between blinds and antes depending on the game being played. If doing so, a single button ante works best so you don’t need an additional chip on the table just for the ante.

When we played a stud game during the last Meetup in MI we used blinds instead antes and it worked fine I felt. So you can definitely get away with not using an ante if you want.

I've played in games using both types. Using blinds in a stud game is basically the same as using a single (button/table) ante.

I prefer antes. Now we use a button (or whatever is being used to keep track of the number of hands) ante. Generally the ante is approximately equal to the sum of the small and big blinds used in the other games. So, if we are playing 10/20 limit with 5 and 10 blinds the button ante is 15. If we are playing 5/10 with 2 and 5 blinds we use a button ante of 10.
