Best strategy to get chips from Vegas casinos? (3 Viewers)

I just tried getting some $2s from the Golden Nugget. I didn't try asking the cage for a few souvenirs since I was trying to get a few barrels. They turned me down though and said they're only available at the tables. I put my name in the 3-6 limit game. I was called in 5 minutes, got my chips but they only play with 1s. lol and they looked like they were plastic. I was too tired at the time after working 4 days straight at 14 hour shifts so playing is not ideal to harvest chips that night. Another time I guess.
Those $1s are the ICON chips they're replacing their Paulson chips with. Ceramic, not plastic, but definitely not what we like around here.

Thank you all for the thoughts and suggestions. And nice to learn that the lingo is "Harvesting".

Craps is always fun... pocketing a few chips throughout the session could work. It'll feel weird with full, heavy pockets to only get a barrel or two of chips.

I guess my new lucky number is 42, place bet on the 6 and the 8. Pays out 49, so four $1 chips each win.

Ok let's take Bellagio for example. There are like 30 tables in there and two reception podiums at the two main walkways into and out of the cardroom. There are people constantly coming into and out of the cardroom for other reasons like to go to the bathroom or to get food or just to take a break, whatever. Probably 10-20 people walk right past those podiums for every one that stops so if you just walk right past & act like you know where you are going no one will stop you or even think about it at all. Walk right back to the cage and ask for a rack of red and a rack of blue. Again totally normal for a 1/2 nl game which there will be many of.

If it makes you more comfortable sign up for a 1/2 nl game and sort the chips either while waiting for the game or even while sitting in the game.

I wouldn't walk straight out the door with 6 racks of blue $1 chips, but it's not like there are guards looking to confiscate chips from people going from the poker room into the casino

I am curious about this. Would you mind elaborating a bit more? So, you go can go to the poker cage and ask for chips without registering for a game? You would just find a place to sit in the poker room and sort through the chips? Would that look a bit strange? Then you would just put the chips you want into your pockets/bag and return the rest of the chips to the cage and walk out?

Alternatively, if you were to actually play in a cash game and sort the chips while you were playing how do you then get them out of the poker room? When you are ready to go you just get up from the table with your chips and pocket the barrels of sorted chips and cash in the rest at the cage? Would it be an issue if they see you pocketing barrels of chips?

I will continue to buy Vegas chips here on PCF but I would love to try and pick some up on my own. I have never been to Vegas and now that I am much more interested in chips it sounds like a lot of fun to just take a weekend trip to Vegas and see what I can get!

Ideally the Casino has a poker room, if not , just walk up to an empty staffed table, ask for $20 in $1 chips. Have a $20 bill and a single in your other hand for tip. Easy and repeat , cash out the bad chips.

If Casino has a poker room, (They probably 1/3) , just walk up to the cage ask for $x00 with 20 or 40 singles. You can literally walk out to the floor and find a seat at a slot machine and pick out you chips and then go back and cash out. No one will really care.

If you are trying to get racks of chips out of the casino, say like 500 $1s , it will probably take multiple trips or a friendly cage. (Tip)

This is how I do it.

Limit poker: Buy-in for more than a rack. Play for a while sorting the good chips into reserve stacks, and betting with the bad chips. Whenever you are ready, get up to cash out. Put 100 chips in a rack, any extra good barrels in your pocket as you stand up (to kelp carry to the cage), then pocket any more good barrels from the rack on your way to the front. Cash out the bad quality chips. I can get a rack at a time this way, but you need deep pockets.

Craps: Buy in for $100 plus. Immediately ask for 10-20 $1s if they don't provide them at buy-in. Place bets that generate more $1s than consume them. For example placing a 5 or 9 for $5 will generate 2 $1s each time they hit, while never costing any $1s. Sort the chips for quality, and pocket the good $1s 5 at a time when no-one is paying attention. Pocket more 1s when the dealer shifts change. Request 10-20 more 1s as required if you get low.

Blackjack: If you can find $1 (OYO) or $3 (Palm Springs) it's easy. For higher stakes just request 10-20 $1s and bet odd amounts like $8 a hand. Sort the chips for quality, and pocket 5 $1s at a time when the dealer is distracted shuffling the deck, or more during a shift change. Request more 1s as required if you get low.

I have never been caught, but if any one questions why you are pocketing chips, just say you are saving them for tips later, or you are limiting your losses by pocketing some of your buy-in to cash out later.

Cage won’t sell if no poker.
I’m sure this is true in Vegas, but definitely not the rule in AC. Find pensioner casinos with chips you like…
Is there any secret on how to get $2.50 snappers?
When the ladies come around to take beverage orders, give the dealer a $10 to break for tipping and specifically ask for snappers, “it’s a superstition”. Tip the 2 worst, pocket the 2 nicest, rinse and repeat
just say you are saving them for tips later, or you are limiting your losses by pocketing some of your buy-in to cash out later.
This guy gets it!
