Heading to Detroit on business for several days. Where the best places to play? Just looking to play some cash games after dinner on a week night.

I don't play downtown very much. Mostly home games for me. I have played at two of the three casino's in Detroit, MGM and Greektown

MGM:
I like their poker room better. Prefer the layout over greektown. They have coffee/soda/snacks in the poker room that are free. Greektown does not. The two negatives for me on MGM over Greektown were the slots are right next to the poker room. If your sitting on one of the outer tables it gets a little noisy. There really isn't anything in the surrounding area. Its just the casino.

Greektown:
Poker room is a little smaller (but quieter than MGM). You have your choice of restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the casino.

Pizza Papalis http://www.gogobot.com/pizzapapalis-detroit-restaurant is directly across the street. They have never disappointed me.

Pegasus Taverna, very solid. I've eaten there twice. Enjoyed it both times http://www.gogobot.com/pegasus-taverna-detroit-restaurant

Parthenon http://www.gogobot.com/parthenon-detroit-restaurant Ate there once a few years ago. Excellent.

Slows BBQ. I've never eaten here. They are a staple in Detroit http://www.gogobot.com/slows-bar-bq-detroit-restaurant

Another option is to hop the border and go to Caesars Windsor.. Never been to either of the detroit casinos so can't really compare.
Casino is a 5 min drive from the tunnel.

I've never been to the Windsor Casino. I've heard great things about it. Five minute drive from the tunnel. Sometimes getting across the border can be time consuming.

I guess it depends on your roll. I have played Greektown, the casino layout is confusing but I thought the room was OK. In Windsor you are gambling at a 25% discount right now. Tunneling is usually pretty quick because trucks must take the bridge, just don't cross during rush hour. Windsor poker room is completely enclosed so no casino noise.

I havent played there in awhile, but I liked Motor City poker room the best....seems to have more games running. Greektown only had 2 or 3 tables going the last 2 times I was there, but the restaurants are great in Greektown area!

best option is to probably download the poker app that shows what games are running at each place and decide which stakes/games u want to play or are interested in playing. someone might be able to help with the name of the app, im drawing a blank on the name

The app you're thinking of is probably BravoPoker. Though it only has Greektown and Caesar's Windsor, I believe.

I hadn't used it before, but I just checked it out and it doesn't show the current tables running like Bravo. It does have good info for regular tournaments, though.

I wasn't really thinking about it and didn't bring my passport. Do you need a passport to cross into Windsor?

Did the poker room at MGM move? Three weeks ago I was there and it is upstairs. You have to take an elevator. It's in its own room and very quiet. I quite liked it. +1 for Windsor on the whole. I find that to be one of the best all-round casinos for everything. And they run a $65 tourney everyday @ 8:15pm.

Must be a post-9/11 change. When I lived in Michigan, all you needed to cross any Canadian border (Windsor/Detroit, Sarnia/Port Huron, Sault Ste. Marie) was a government-issued ID card, like a driver's license. Even a social security card worked back then.

It has since changed.
