"Do what's right for the game"
The rule you put into play might not be in the TDA rule-set or even Robert's Rules, but if it works for your game and your players, let it play*.
* if everyone knows this is not standard or universal, it works better as well. The rules tweaks in my game are tiny and not terribly far off of 'normal' casino rules, but everyone knows they are non-standard and not to expect them elsewhere. **
** It's been long enough that I've been able to run my own game with my regular player pool, even I have forgotten what those alterations were, and maybe for the best.
