I’m new to the chip world and play a .50/1 cash game every week and looking to upgrade my set, what’s some better sets for 500 and under

Looking to get a 750 pc set for my weekly .50/1 cash game and not sure to go with ceramics or China clays…what everybody think?

Looking to buy a cash set and not sure what’s the best one for under $500

You probably won't need 750 chips for 1 table, unless you need to spread among lots of different stakes from 0.25/0.50 to 2/5.

How many players, what's the bank on your biggest night?

Okay fine. I'll be the one to say it.

Get samples.

Seriously, get samples. I will tell you to get ceramics from BRPro. Someone else will tell you ceramics from Tina are unbeatable. A third person will chime in and say ceramics suck and china clays are superior to any ceramics. To be honest here, the only one who can say what chips are best for you IS YOU!!!!

Seriously, get samples. And a hot dog roller.

Here is a really solid write up on recommended denoms for different buy-ins:
https://www.pokerchipforum.com/thre...ut-a-cash-game-chip-set-5c-10c-to-5-10.30897/

You'd be looking at a 500 pc set. What I'd suggest you do is you plan on spending ~$50 on a case for lugging these things around, and you spend ~$50 picking up a bunch of samples from places. You'd be looking to spend about >$0.80 a chip.

Ceramics from BR Poker will run you ~0.65 a chip: https://brpropoker.com/
You can go buy a cheaper ceramic like Scrolls ~0.50 a chip: https://www.thepokerstore.com/collections/scroll-ceramic-poker-chips
From the same site you can also get Milanos ~0.50 a chip: https://www.thepokerstore.com/collections/milano-poker-chips
etc.

I'd suggest buying a few sample set from those places above, ceramics, china clays, whatever, looking at them, shuffling them, bouncing them against each other, smelling them(not kidding some chips smell bad), and deciding what kind of chip you want. Then, if you decide you like a style but you didn't buy that exact chip in your sample get that specific sample set. Like say you decide on BR Poker ceramics and you got a sample set of Nevada Jacks but you really like the art of Dia de Los Muertos, get a sample set of the DdLM, when you are holding them, you may decide differently. Only then make your actual order. This place is littered with threads about people who wanted 'the best set' for playing poker, bought a set and wanted to replace it within the month(myself included).

Welcome to the forum,
Dave

PS. I wouldn't recommend you got with Tina if you don't know exactly what you want already and have a lot of time. You won't know what you are getting, you'd need an artist or a stock design, and you'd have to wait an absurdly long time.
