Excellenttt, just learned that a weeklong conference I'll be attending is at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Mississippi! Psyched to see the card room, looks fantastic.

Any advice? What's the area like, and do they have 1/2 or 1/3?

Been way too long. Just been splashing in my little microstakes games, haven't been to a proper cardroom since I moved away from Jersey. We'll see! I'll take the stack pics, I've got until September to train lol.
 
I was just passing through there this past weekend on a road trip. Be warned, the state of Mississippi does not have a Chase bank for whatever reason. I wanted to stop by this poker room, but had no access to monies so I kept driving. Sad face.

Cash it is! Will have to do my presenting and networking, then hit the tables. Will have to set an alarm to make sure I sleep at least a little lol

Well that answers the 1/3 question. Gosh I hope that's still true, that'll make the trip that much better lol.
 
I play there a few times a year. One of my favorite rooms and worth the 5.5 hour drive for me. People love lighting $ on fire there. The straddle will be on 25-100% of the time depending on your table dynamics (1/3 is $6). Comps are 2 or 3 an hour depending on the game your playing and the food is top notch. Plus they run decent promotions during the week. Check out my post history and you'll see some sample hands from the room and stacks.

Rumor is they room might be moving at the end of the year which would be super sad as I love it's location now and that's even after they painted over the awesome murals that were on the walls.

Woah! Thanks for the information, appreciated. Saving up a roll now, been a while since Ive played in any game that isnt my microstakes lol.
 
Agreed that Beau runs a class room. Tables are juicy, but being uncapped they run *deep*. Be prepared for 1/3 tables to have $15k-20k on them just about as a matter of course. Good comps. Waits usually aren't long. Also, if you've never played with the Mississippi Straddle before, you might want to acquaint yourself with it.

Honestly that's pretty intimidating, nowhere near that rolled. We'll see, Ill be chatty but nit up or something, Ill find a way.

I usually buy just like it's any other $1/3 table and don't worry about it. I can only lose what's in front of me. If my stack gets so big I'm uncomfortable, I get up. Sit out 2 hours and you can buy back in for whatever you want.

That makes sense. Appreciate your experience, Ive only sat at low backroom 1/2 games, cant really fathom that much money on the table but its table stakes and effective stacks. Gotta remind myself.
 
I recently moved from the area, but I lived about 45 minutes from the Beau Rivage for the past two years. Agree with everything said so far.

Back in the early summer this year, I played a lot more often there, and on some of the holiday weekends, they were short staffed and were having trouble keeping up with the amount of people wanting to play. Daily tournament would tie up many of the dealers, so the waitlists would get fairly long for the cash games. Plus poker room managers seemed sparse and overwhelmed, even the cage line would take a while to get chips or cash out. I mainly played on the weekends so not sure if that’s still the case during the week days.

Another option for 1-3 in the area is the IP Casino just a couple minutes up I-110. Never plays as deep as the Beau Rivage, but the players at the IP were pretty terrible at poker. Not as good promotions as the Beau though, and would only get about 2-3 tables at a time.

You right. Just jitters, been hosting micros and mostly spend poker nights teaching brand new people, Im excited to get back on the horse and get comfortable. No needing to deal or teach people how to deal or remind blinds to post.
 
Alright, got a small roll in a pile for the trip, and have the science ready to present. Admit Im nervous, haven't played in a real cardroom since 2017 in AC. The dream is me landing a job with some bigshot from the conference by running a bluff on the river, but we'll see.

@Josh Kifer turned me on to The Course and I loved it, really helpful. Doubt Ill play as aggro as the author wants but a really fantastic book.
 
Followed up with Elwood's books on tells. Again, very interesting. No im not expecting to soul read players and walk away with thousands but this is what got me into poker, enjoying the tells and psychology and the live reads.

Dont expect too much! But hoping to use this thread for stacks picks. BR was the only hotel listed for this conference that would get reimbursed, so Im definitely showing up with a few buyins lol. Those stack pics might be 'bought in for this!'.......'Annnd its gone, hotel beers it is'

Ah, parents first always! But appreciate your insight. Always looking for an excuse to break bread with new friends, another time.
 
NOLA is an hour away. Pensacola Beach is not too far. Craps is nice too at Beau. Dice are a steal if you can find them at the gift shop next to the hotel elevators. (Grab me a pair or two if they have some. I'm missing a red pair). Swimming pool is pretty big with giant TV and pretty big hot tub. Gym is better than most casinos.

Hard Rock probably have their new swimming pool up by now.
 
Absolutely. I had a trip scheduled down there over veterans day weekend in Nov but just canceled it due to the Rungood Poker Series being in Tunica that same weekend. No sense in driving hours when I'll have good games 20 minutes away. Maybe I'll post up a thread next time I head down to see if anyone else wants to join. I usually go and just grind by myself for a few days, so it would be nice change of pace.

Good calls, but Ive got a paid for room at the Rivage, 0 chance I'm leaving. Ill look for dice and let you know, no problem. Appreciate the insight
 
I didn't like grits until I tried Shrimp and Cheese Grits! Sugar Factory inside the Hard Rock has great Shrimp and Cheese Grits!

Forgot what I order, but Half Shell Oyster House is nice.

Can't miss the sports bar right next to the poker room.
