I recently purchased a set of Paulson Top Hat and Cane on eBay for a considerable amount of cash ($1600). I just wanted to please ask your opinion on their authenticity or of you believe they might be fakes. Thanks in advance for your help.

Authentic. The shadows on the inlay of the yellow chip seal the deal for me.

They are the best fakes I've ever seen! So good, in fact, that you probably wouldn't be able to distinguish them from authentic Paulson WTHC chips.

I really hope they’re fakes because that would mean China has seriously upped their compression molding game and we’re in for some great new clay chips.

I concur with the sentiment above. They look real to me. I had a set of these some time back.

Are you comparing these chips with some that you already own? It is plausible chips manufactured in different lots will have slight color variations. That should be expected. However with Paulson and the shear number of these that were manufactured originally, I would expect pretty good consistency. I do recall the pink 500s having a little variation.

They look real to me and that was a good price for the high denominations.

If you paid $1600 for 400 chips, then in my opinion you slightly overpaid. But they're legit, and it's not a ridiculous overpayment if the chips are mint.

Firstly thank you very much for all who took the time to reply. Long story short, I’m no chip expert, however I have a friend who was a lot more switched on with regard to chips and he owned a set of Paulson National series a few years ago (amazing chips) and so I thought from then I’d like to own a similar set. Living in the UK they are particularly hard to come by but I found this set from Europe on eBay (listing attached). I’m currently overseas with the Air Force so I had them delivered to a good friend and when he opened them for me on video feed his initial impression wasn’t great. Hence why I sought the experience of you lovely people. I guess you never really know what you get from eBay but your comments have reassured me a lot so thank you very much. He took some video footage so maybe I’ll pop that on the FB group as well. Kind Regards John

For eBay sale it was a lot better than what is usually available. Works out to 3/chip and not bad considering you avoid the high shipping costs from NA.
