Recently, we've included 2 decks of Designs (one bridge and one poker size) into our game rotation.

We've experienced issues with the card face texture, making it hard to pitch onto the table surface and hard to spread out, specifically when dealing the flop and spreading out the 3 cards on the table surface.

Anyone else experience this or do I have a bad batch?

Not just you. Are these the newer very textured stock? The same thing happens to me with the textured Dal Negro stock. It's like they snag on my Chanman suede and stop right in their tracks when I'm dealing and I try and pitch them.

Borderline unusable now, which is weird, because just a year ago, they pitched absolutely fine. Does this have something to do with how the material breaks down over time? I opened up a new setup in the shrink wrap just to make sure it wasn't because I was using a used set and maybe they lost their gripiness, but no, same thing with the brand new setup too.

No issues with the Modiano stock at all. And fortunately I don't expect any issues with the new run being printed on Fournier stock.

You may have hit the nail on the head. They may have deteriorated over time even when unopened, and I store them in a cabinet with lots of desiccant gel all over the place.

I bought them around 2 years ago. When I opened my first decks I didn't feel that grittiness (which is what I will call it for now).

The second decks were opened maybe 11 months ago and it displayed those habits immediately. Same with the deck opened just last night.

I also agree with your opinion on Modiano. still have some of my Platinum Acetates and their surface feel have never deteriorated from storage unlike Kems I've had.

Maybe Desjgns are having a similar problem?
