I got some Elk, Boar, and some Venison so far.

Fresh alligator is good. I ate a ton of that when I was down in Mississippi during tech school.

And by fresh I mean never frozen. Alligator sausage, jerky, steak. All good

Like @Mr. Cheese said, fresh gator is good, but also gator jerky is good eating. Several of my friends put in for tags each year and I'm always happy when they get one!

Tastes like chicken....

Had it at a local Jamaican themed restaurant. They called them "gator bites". Can't really comment, as they were breaded and fried like chicken nuggets.

I found alligator to be Nasty. The mouth feel is greasy, the meat is gamey. I'd pay money not to eat it again.

Pretty much this, though I wouldn't go that far. It wasn't HORRIBLE, but I wouldn't intentionally eat it again.

Alligator is delicious!! Ate it 2-3 times, when I was down in NOLA! We actually have a few decent Creole restaurants here in Denver that serve it, so I have had it a few times prior to my trip. Like others have said, tastes just like chicken!!

Tastes like chicken, but like everything else that tastes like chicken, it isn't as good as chicken.

I like to refer to it as Chicken of the Swamp.

My experience is along with the others who didn't like it that much. I didn't hate it, but I'll never bother again.

I had gator jerky once as a kid. Remember that it was fine but couldn't tell you anything else about it.

A local Cajun restaurant (now closed) carried several (presumably) fresh alligator dishes (including deep-fried gator tail bites), all of which I thought were decent enough to eat. I don't actively seek it out, but even if it wasn't the only thing on the menu, I'd certainly eat it again. Never seen or tried gator jerky, so can't comment there.

I've heard that before about Texas gators. Something about the local diet..... ;)

I've had fresh gator, and fried gator. I'll take fresh any day over fried. Fried is a cheat in my book. Nobody ever serves up a filet mignon deep fried. You lose too much of what is good about the meat and replace it with oil and breading - which can be good in it's own right, but you wouldn't deep fry a ribeye and call it a steak.

I found the fresh texture to be different from chicken. I image jerky would just be jerky flavor and jerky texture, which is to say if the other packs were good, it should be too.

Sadly my thoughts of paying to not eat alligator means I'd pay for an extra meal rather than eat 'gator paid for by someone else.

My Southern clients were often eager to test me with interesting things to eat. It was kind of funny watching Yankee land consulting personnel (aka competitors) confronted with a rack of ribs (which they tried to eat with a knife and fork) or a tub of crawfish which needed to be shucked before eating. Both of which are tricky to eat in a suit and tie. Some folks even had trouble with peel and eat shrimp which was a shock to me.

Ribs, shrimp and crawfish are yummy. Alligator wasn't even marginal to my taste.

Not knowing how to eat ribs may be the most bizarre thing I've ever heard (and I once worked with a millennial that didn't know how to grate cheese). However, anyone that may have avoided food that still had it's head attached gets a bye.

It's available at lots of restaurants here in FL. Nothing special or offensive, IMO -- somewhere between chicken and pork.

Definitely shouldn't be gamey, though.

It wasn't bad. Had a bit of a shrimp taste to it.

Had some gator when I visited New Orleans... I liked it. But then again I like almost any food...
