A couple of nice pens from Namisu recently, and made this goofy penholder for my desk… mainly to encourage me not to lose them:

The wood is from a piece of oak firewood that I split. Feet are metallic gray painted dowels. Pen holders are brass flanges from the hardware store, with some rubber gaskets below to hold the pens up straight.

I’ve also got some nice art quality pencils on the way, and I’m gonna build a sharpener and some pencil holes into this.

I obviously have too much time on my hands…

I don't think I ever posted about the dining table I built so here you go. Made from 8/4 Sapele and my own final design with ideas taken from a few different places. I replaced a farmhouse table that was the first thing I ever built and was atrocious. Took me a few months to build it and I had to have my BIL come over a couple of times to help me flip the top so I could finish it as the thing is so heavy. Also pictured is my final inspector who approved based on smell and treat bribery.20250126_161219.webp20250126_161230.webp20250126_161125.webp20250126_154821.webp

Added to this, and changed the look a bit. I wanted a spot for a quality drawing pencil, and a sharpener. I also stained it a darker color, which I’m not sure is an improvement.

I like the dark stain and think its an improvement. I'm not sure my brain likes the holder sizes being different and not in an order of small to large or vice versa.

Three of them are the same outer diameter; the one for the pencil needed be narrower. The variation of the inner diameter is to accommodate different size objects. (The pencil obviously being the thinnest.) I used rubber gaskets inside each brass piece to help stabilize the various inserts, but given that these hardware store parts were never intended for this purpose, it is all a bit of a hackjob, admittedly.
