I know I’m nerding out big time, but that’s kind of what we do here, right?
I’m hosting again this week, and I’d like to use my Foxwoods chips again, because they’re awesome and I need to show them off. The problem is, I’m only up to 105 $5 chips, so far.
We’re playing .25/.50 NLHE, average buyin around 100bb. Playing 5 handed last week, we only had 3-4 rebuys and I didn’t get through all the $5s. This week we’ll be 8-handed and I’m pretty sure I’ll sell all those $5s pretty quickly.
Anyway, I have enough snappers for around 4 more rebuys. I guess I’d like to get those on the table before I start selling too many $25 chips. If you’ve played with snappers mixed in with $1s and $5s - how’s that go? Does it get confusing or annoying?

do you

get them on the table, show off your chips and make yourself proud

I have used mixed 5's before so I could get what I wanted on the table before i got enough to cover

most of the times my group does not care about what chips we use, only 1 or 2 ever say or notice anything

I’d be interested to see what happens if you use snappers as a $5 as well. Have 2 different $5 chips and see if it goes okay or is a problem.

I guess I’d be more likely to just put additional $5s from a different casino on the table, than to say “the $2.50s count as $5s.” That’s just my personal preference though.
In theory, your idea would probably work more smoothly that putting an extra, in-between denomination on the table.

We play $2s and $3 chips with @Seeking Alpha Social Club crew and no one ever has any problems. I don't see why a snapper would be an issue. This is one of those perfect scenarios where you don't have enough of one denom to fit the game and because of that magic happens and you get to get your awesome snappers in play! Sounds awesome Rob, I wish I was closer, I would definitely take a seat in that game!

You spent years putting them together! Why did you do it if not to get them on the table??? Down the road you may find a hoard of $5s and have enough to cover the game, and then have players asking "why are we using these if you have enough $5s?"right now you have the perfect answer! Play em brother

Many of the AC chip collectors use snappers for quarters. I have blue starburst I plan to mill and make Taj quarters, but I also like the idea of using the snappers as fracs and using all original AC house molds.

Again you put in the effort building the set, use it how ever you see fit! I would think woth that being a local casino that getting those purdy snappers in play will bring a little extra element of "special" to the game.

I say run it, then report back... willing to bet you have zero issues and that the players actually enjoy them!

We've done it on .50/1. 2 and 2.50 chips got used and no big issues, but it did become a chip denom fest and I went back to just 1s and 5s. Fun once and a while tho. Or if you need an emergency bulk up on a set.

Yeah, with the short handed game last week, I was very torn. The collector part of me wanted to get those pink beauties on the felt, but the other part of me that wanted to be the responsible efficient host, killed Chipper Rob’s joy.
The question for this week is, after Chipper Rob gets all the fives and snappers out on the table, will he have had enough busch lights to silence Boring Host Rob and convince himself that these should be next?

It not ideal but do-able.

I had a set that I used both $5 & $10 in the set because I don’t have enough $5 for the set.

So go ahead and use the snapper, frankly we seem way worse denomination set up that had 25c 50c $1 $2 $5 $10 in our younger days

Chips are meant be be played. Hit the felt!

++1 this ^^^^

I have a couple of players that grumble when I put $2s, $2.50s, or $3s in play. I just offer them an HP12c calculator and tell them to add $2 + $3....or $2.50 x 2. And then I point out that I feel their pain since poker isn't a thinking game. :wtf:

I think it would absolutely be a crime NOT to get them all in play! Then tweak it from there on out, again if local players also frequented Foxwoods.. I honestly think they are going to love this particular set of Originals no matter what!

I'm with Kifer, if you own them... you owe it to the chips to get them back on the felt! Maybe not every game, especially when the correct breakdown is achieved, but even then I would host a tribute/Throwback/casino night where we got ALL of them in play.

Have to admit I was eyeing the snappers last game and was wondering if we’d see them in play. I see no issues with using as needed.

I tried it once and my players hated counting in multiples of 2.50. YMMV

That is an insane # of $1 chips in play, so they don't like counting out multiples of $2.50... but no problem making a triple barrel $60 bet? Lol

Again we all do things differently but for me no more than (200) $1 chips on the table, ut I also know guys that like running racks and racks of $5s as opposed to using $25s so I guess it's whatever works best for your game

What exactly is a snapper?
$2.50 chip
Generally they exist just for blackjack, where a $5 bet can win $7.50
Not sure why they're called snappers, but they are. Maybe because they're usually pink? Which is also why chip collectors love them.

That has to be the best case scenario for chip color progression, and I don't even like the Vegas colors, but those look so good, and I love the word label 'two fifty', can't wait to hear how it goes

That is such a great chip!!

No, provided each player keeps their chips in neat 10- or 20- stacks.

Reminds me of a question I asked 30 years ago, to a very close friend:
"Should I feel guilty to try my luck with one of my sister's girlfriends? (they being 18 at the time, and me 23)
His reply was "No, provided that you 'll f*ck her"
:)

Ugh. I hate to admit it, but the snappers might be a no go. We had 7 players buying in around $50, with quite a few rebuys - I guess we had almost $800 on the table when finally after midnight I put some snappers on the table.
It could certainly be the after midnight after too many beers and whatever, but the snappers weren’t intuitive, and having to think to calculate seemed annoying.
I hate to say it, but I think I’ll definitely be happier putting greens on the table, instead of pinks.

Your problem was waiting. Get them on the table from the very first hand. People will figure it out quickly and they'll be good with them the whole rest of the night.
