I'm likely way too old to have a modern perspective.
*** gets out rocking chair *** Back in my day, we used a slide rule rather than a calculator. No kidding, I wasn't allowed to bring a calculator into a classroom my freshman year. "How do you know you'll have electricity where you work? Hmmmm, never thought of that"
No admissions standards. Any resident of Texas could show up at any state campus and sign up for classes. The failure rates were very high. Two-thirds of the freshman class had to be gone by the junior year due to space limitations. This wasn't hard to do. Most the entering class had never taken algebra in high school and found freshman math & science impossible.
Texas A&M has just begun admitting women. But the tenured professors didn't always agree. More than once, I had classes that started out with a notice that women were 100% sure to fail the class and they would be best served to leave the room, NOW. Everyone knew girls can't become an engineer.
Tuition was ~$75 per semester. I got my undergrad and grad education for $750 plus fees. It cost more to see the sports teams play than to go to class.

Now it can cost over 700 dollars just for the textbooks combined. That’s awesome that you were able to make it through when it seems as though it was deemed impossible by so many students back then.I'm likely way too old to have a modern perspective.

We made Coke, Bud, and Miller Lite. I designed these in 1995ish and they only sold for a year, but there's still some around. Product was actually a huge flop.

Bummer! This is the Bud lure I had (probably still have in a tackle box somewhere):
I worked at a camping/surplus store and we sold those... well in theory. Nobody ever bought one. I would slap it on when the fishing was totally dead and I wasn't getting any bites. It was heavy and I could really cast it a long ways, so it kept me entertained. But one time it actually worked!
