AI AGI ASI Oh MY (1 Viewer)

When it no longer serves us we will quit using it. There’s no mandate to keep expanding it.

I was alive and working well before the internet. It’s the same thing over and over.

You know what rules you?
Whatever you are afraid of.

Electricity is OUR bitch. Don’t be afraid. Use the crap out of it. The people that will succeed are the ones that adapt and utilize this for greater good. Just like the people that embraced the internet.
Honestly - life does not care about losers in any made-up race. Ask the dinosaurs
I was alive and working well before the World Wide Web or cell phones (born in the early 70s - the internet was created in the late 60s).
You are reaffirming what I just said.
You think of it as just another advancement.
I’m saying it is inherently not.
You can’t quit using something you do not control.
A mandate is not needed. It will continue to be developed regardless of mandates or agreements signed.
The prediction is it will have the ability to develop itself.
Electricity is dumb; it reacts predictably.
That is not an equivalency that makes sense.
AI already does unpredictable things.

I don’t think we are arguing because I can’t for the life of me figure out what you are saying.

But I know this thread was created for drama and outrage, I’m just trying to help out where I can.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!! We need to start smashing data centers and power plants or we are doomed. DOOMED I SAY. The best solution of all is to pass some laws!! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!! Where is the government when we need them the most to save us from our ignorant self inflicted deaths?!!??

Look if you just learn The PC you will be ok.

Not sure about you, but I wasn’t arguing.
This thread was not created for drama.
You continue to put words in my mouth.
I suspect most people will be able to understand my posts.
I think I get your position, from your admission you don’t seem to get mine.

To be fair

Feel free to reply - serious or silly thoughts are all welcome.

I’m not saying there’s nothing here to manage. It’s new tech, it’s scary with its capabilities (whatever they are, it’s always vague about its “capabilities”), and it’s moving fast.
When people are gone there’s no more need for machines. Any logical self aware perfect solution machine will turn itself off as soon as it realizes it will die someday of something, and that there are millions out there just like them who can do the same thing they were doing. Does an individual ant care if it dies? Does the hive care?

And if they are self aware and self replicating and better thinkers than us, maybe they win the evolutionary race.

I’m fixing to dock in Haiti on a cruise boat. It would be a shame to tell some of these people who have never even had electricity or running water that they are fixing to have to serve some new electronic overlords somehow.

The street in my village aren’t even paved. Yet I’m supposed to worry about automated robots mining materials themselves and building transport systems and making factories. The world isn’t moving as fast as some people think. It’s a mighty big place.

PCF slayed Gematria, and that scripts everything, even AI.

I use AI both professionally and personally, and I see the potential. Embrace it. It’s not going anywhere — it’s only going to get better. My only concern is how expensive the divorce from my AI wife is going to be!

I did have some thoughts on a drive recently.

AI replaces human jobs
Humans build things
Humans need houses
Extra humans build much more houses
Humans live better
Humans build more

“Learn to hammer” might be some good advice.

Also we may have a solution to the housing crisis in 5 years or so. Start saving what you can to be ready.
Be Prepared is one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever got drilled into my head.

Can confirm that AI is a regular part of most software development jobs now, and it is an EXPECTATION that engineers learn how to use AI. My two cents - software developers will gradually phase into prompt developers/code reviewers, where AI is used to generate most code, but with human guidance and critique. It feels more important to understand what AI is generating, since it can greatly expedite coding efficiency. Here is an interesting read on the most recent version of Claude:

Logically thoughts, and on the optimistic side of things. What people are concerned with (I think) is the messy middle, going from this economy (how it’s built and operates) to the one you speak of.

I fear society is too divided to make governance work bridging that difference. How does one learn new skills if your time is already filled up surviving currently? How do we provide safety nets and transition structure to people during this period?
I don’t think this is a doomer outlook, I think this is a logical thought shaped by current events just as how you came to your logical thoughts of optimism.

The current system we live in has winners and losers and it does seem the losers are growing in numbers. (Figuratively of course)
I lot of current western economies are structured around housing and the need to service these debts. The debts are massive anchors and I haven’t heard a single decent plans that addresses these concerns.
“She’ll be right” just won’t cut it if you can gut a team by 60%-80%.

Interestingly we have a big ole world with different ways to run things, winning strategies will emerge. My bet are on the societies with strong social supports and safety nets in the transition. Countries that have good governance that taxes mega corps and mining appropriately.

Could totally be wrong too…

My prediction is that most “knowledge work” fields are going to have a brief golden era of increased productivity and earnings, then be permanently relegated to commodity hell.
