Advice needed!

I moved apartments and am looking for a new table top. I could go custom (cost $700-$1200 for what I want) but I'm thinking I prefer to just get a Barrington-like table top without the legs. I already have a dining room table, which measures on the small side (60" x 32") so I'm looking for an 8-player top with no legs OR where I can easily detach the legs from.

I am a little unclear if the Barrington tables of the world allow you to detach the legs easily enough or if there are other models that people have tried to do this with. I prefer to stay away from the super low-end table tops for obvious reasons.

Anyone have any advice for me on what kind of options I have available? Measurements would ideally be 72" or less X 40" or less.

Have you thought about building something. No folding of course aside from getting too technical and losing the continuity.

Another idea is look on CL or FB and buying a table and taking the legs off.

Not a lot harder to store behind a dresser or something.

Possibly a lot cheaper. Just a thought.

We have a guy who builds tables here in New York and I could get something from him for ~$800/$900 or so, which is what I might just end up doing. But... I've been liking the Barrington (soft foam) tops a bit more recently than the (much nicer obviously) custom tables that we've ordered in the past so I'm kind of curious if anyone has had experience taking the legs off of any of the popular $150-$300 models!

A lot of folks around here have experience with the Barrington table and there are threads about hacks to further enhance them.

Taking the legs off is probably a few bolts. Throw a yoga mat on the dining room table for slipping and sliding and you’d probably be in business.

With eyes peeled, people have been known to nab them very inexpensively.

Thanks, OK yeah I will just do some more searching. I've mostly seen threads about getting Barrington's for cheap when the deals pop up!

Thanks for this follow up! This looks interesting - did you remove the legs from your model or you just like the table overall?

I kept the legs on, but each side is attached with 12 screws which seem simple enough to remove. The middle hinge would prevent it from lying flat though, so you'd probably want a towel or cushion.

I also tried (and returned) one of these. It might be closer to what you're looking for, but it's 82"x42" and felt less well constructed than the tables.

It sounds like you and I are looking for something similar. Let me know if you find something else you like. I think ideally I'd want something rounder like a pub league table but a little narrower and lower.

Not sure what tariffs would be like, but I got an older version of this UK table topper with removable rails. Just went back to their website and they seem to have massively improved their rail system/set up! I used a reshipper to get it to the US btw.

I used MyUKMailbox! Very straightforward, my topper got damaged in transit but not because of them, packaging had fragile stickers etc. but someone decided to dent in the entire box. They were very communicative afterwards (basically got a full refund) so I’d still recommend them

This looks amazing and I actually wish I had come across it earlier! I am in the middle of production of a custom top that a friend is building me (cost ~$850)
