Gonna step away from the hobby and hosting for a bit. So letting my cash set go. Please note the pics show some chips I have since sold. The for sale breakdown is listed below.

100 x 0.25 (@Gear Relabled Snappers)
300 x 1
200 x 5 (very few commemorative chips, less than 40)

Chips are all in standard used condition, and were hand cleaned by me on purchase. I never oiled them. Some of the ones could use a cleaning again.

I believe they are called snappers cause you get paid 1.5 on black jack.
So on a $5 bet you get back $7.50, 1 $5 chip and a $5 chip snapped in half, or a $2.50 chip.

Horseshoe Cleveland Chips 1$ are casino issued THC. The 5s 25s were casino issued RHC. The 100s are relabeled THC, the 25 c are relabelled RHC. For some reason the horseshoe cleveland had both molds. OCD chippers have been tilting since release!!

Thanks for the context! Super frustrating. Chips are still sexy, though.

to add to the question of why the name "snapper" is given. the term comes from the fact that it's the sound the chip makes while the dealer slaps the 2.50 cheque (read: chip) onto the top of the stack for payout that @arch3r just described here.

When you hit black jack the dealer plucks a 5 and a 2.50 so fast it makes a snapping noise and they slam them both on the table making another snapping noise. This is what I have been told at least. Normally I just loose all my money before I hear any snapping.

No one actually knows the true origin (there are quite few theories).
I doubt you will find the term used in a casino.. more of a chip collector's term
