Hey all. The last two casinos I’d really like to bring into my Las Vegas House Mold set are MGM Grand and Monty Carlo. I’m going to need a full rack of $5s so I’m trying to figure out if either of these are obtainable in that sort of volume. Anyone have any insight? Is my set going to come crashing down because of the $5s!!

Any and all thoughts welcome!

I could go with the $5 Bally’s with the shaped inlay as one of the more (I think?) obtainable options but no real connection to Bally’s and don’t love how it’d match the rest.

I’m assuming trying to get a rack of the Mirage with the smaller inlay and larger white bear claws is a no-go too? They’d look good with the others though and at least some connection.

Anyone know if a Luxor $5 is obtainable in nice condition? It’d fit the theme of the set but definitely newer than the rest and I’m guessing lighter.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Bally's are out there as we all know via PCF

Mirage $5s aren't really out there. I know of one member that's got quite the number of them. Don't exactly remember if they were all the same inlay style or year, but I remember seeing quite a few of them. One or two racks. Only ones I've ever seen in that quantity.

Luxor $5s I have no idea if that type of quantity would be obtainable (obviously should be), but not sure about condition.

How 'bout Dunes?
Unfortunately even though I think they’d work for most, the idea of this set is that every casino has a strong connection to my wife and I, and Dunes doesn’t. My wife has to like each chip’s design too, just to make this harder :).

The $1 is Excalibur quarter pies. Excalibur is the first place we stayed in Vegas and also the first casino I ever played poker in. The quarter-pie look definitely meets wife-likes standards too! It’ll take me some time but I’ll get enough of ‘em to work.

The $100 is Tropicana. We’re from Jersey and the Trop in AC has been our go-to ever since we moved here years ago. It’s a stretch to use a AC connection but I’m ok with that since AC is so much of our casino history and again, she loves the actual chip!

MGM Grand had my wife’s all-time favorite game (a little horse racing game that ran on quarters - an actual cabinet with little horses in it that moved around a track). I absolutely will find some way to get MGM incorporated even if my grail chips won’t work :). Etc. Etc.

So this set is 100% about us vs a traditional House Mold set most would do on PCF. I’m really only looking to be able to cover 4 players…it’s really meant for just my family to use. So that helps on quantities. And proper bet amounts typically need not apply when my wife and kids and I play, so that helps too. Nor is making semi-frequent change a problem. But I do need some workhorse chip and we usually play 1/2 NL so that brings me to a $5!!

Sorry for the long answer @LeGold but I figured it could help others who stumble on the thread and wonder why this idiot won’t use any of the easier to get options!!

If you don't mind current LV mgm 5s, you can find them in good shape.

If you decide on a Vegas $5, I can help get them for you.

I was hoping to stick with chips that were a bit more vintage. I may have to go this route though so will certainly keep you in mind!

Wynn and Resorts World. Head there for a weekend and harvest together to put the finish touches on the set!
Love the idea but our kids are too young to drag along. If I’m still working on the set when they head to college in 7-8 years…maybe!!!

Unfortunately yet another option we just have no connection too.

Thanks for the suggestions all!!!

Anyone have one of these and a scale? Curious what the weight is…

The horse racing game you speak of is called Sigma Derby. Was my favorite gamble in Vegas, especially after a "few" beverages... your wife has good taste.
