I believe these were made by chipco. They are plastic.

Colters right. That mold has been passed around and used by many manufacturers, but mostly for plastic injection mold.
There may have been some early ones that were not injection molded, but I think at some point the mold got modified for injection instead of compression. Rumors maybe.

There’s some threads about them or maybe eisenstants collection talks about the history.

Hispaniola or something like that was one of the bigger users and may have commissioned it.
