Friendly Reminder:

It is never too early to begin planning for next years Casino Chip show and Annual CCA Convention. Here are the dates and times for next year show.

Dates: 12-14 of June 2025
Location: South Point Casino Las Vegas Nevada.

Is there one of these ever hosted in the Midwest? Chicago or Milwaukee perhaps?
Sorry been away from chips. I have thought about trying to get one going but the collectors in the Midwest are just too spread out to put one together. It would take an incredible effort to put one together.

I am unable to make it to the 2025 convention this year so I hope those that do go have an incredible time.

I think there used to be get togethers when Greg was still alive in KC. I was unable to ever make it to one of them.

Cant wait to attend this convention. I also joined the CCA recently. I am looking to purchase my first chip set but I think the CCA is more for single chip collectors?

Flight and hotel booked. It is an awesome experience; lots of chips and dealers with sharp pencils in one room. I view it mostly as a buying opportunity since if you think about it, when you buy an individual chip, it costs you $4-$5 to have it shipped but at this event, you don't have to pay shipping since you're carrying it home and you get to spend time with people with similar interests. It is mostly singles collectors but there are some set collectors too. I am primarily collect fractional singles but I am also building a HSI set for instance. Maybe I'll run into you there...

So, if I was looking for racks to complete less common sets, how likely is it that dealers would have some? What can a newbie expect to find? I'm guessing it's more single chips and memorabilia?

I would absolutely not expect to find anything more than singles. And what you will find will cost way more than what you’re expecting to pay coming from PCF. Think of it as eBay Sellers Live. They’re almost all there.

There is plenty of price variation though between sellers and the bins of random chips do yield some fun value if you spend the time. It’s also a good way to see way more variety of chips all in one place. And if you’re looking to spend 3-4 digits on a single chip you get to see and handle the actual item in person before purchase.

For anyone who will be in town during the chip show, the Charity Series of Poker will be hosting a few events on the same dates. This is the best run poker charity events I've attended. A great time for a good cause. If I'm not working, I'll be there to support them.

You are right about it being mostly singles but I have have gotten some really good deals at past conventions. Most dealers do not want to haul their chips back home if they can prevent it so there are some pretty sharp pencils, especially if you are buying several chips as opposed to one chip. An added bonus is no shipping charges since you schlepp it out of there yourself...

I agree. 2 years ago I believe one of the vendors sold their entire table to another vendor. I'm sure the deals are better on the last day (Saturday), but the most exciting chip opportunities are only around Thursday morning. I was there at the open last year and some chips had already been marked as sold between the vendors. Some regular folks do bring in their chips to sell throughout the show, but even if one of the vendors scores some racks in this manner I've found they're unable/unwilling to find a resell price in such a short time.
