So a while back Tommy asked for a volunteer to organize the 2016 calendar. I think now would be a good time to start organizing the finer details. I'm going to list a rough outline for my general plan, if there's anything to add or change let me know.

The Calendar.
8x11 wall calendar
To be made at shutterfly, cost to be determined.
Possibly look into desk calendars also if there's enough demand.

The months.
My proposal is to have 11 of the 12 months picked by members of the forum. Nomination round and voting round. The 12th month I think should be a collection of the PCF hall of fame inductees.

Here's where I think we need some discussion also. Since the great migration of 2014 there becomes the issue of do we continue with CT tradition and exclude all previous calendar entries from both sites. Or do we start from scratch and select from every set (if we start from scratch do we exclude hall of famers also because they'll be featured anyway?)

Nominations would start around September. Voting October. Finalized and ready to order in November.

Payment and Shipping.
Here's where I need help. Now I COULD handle this but I think that's a bit stupid. Paypal fees and shipping costs would be ridiculous. So I'm asking for a volunteer to handle this part.

So discuss away. Or stay silent and end up with an iron bank calendar.

Can photos of non-custom chips be considered too?

I like your idea of one month = recent HOF inductees. I see no reason to exclude them from the other months, provided they get nominated and voted in. Nominations should be open to any set owned by a PCF member, custom or not.

Personally, I'd like to exclude previous CT calendar sets (to avoid duplication of my calendar collection and to open up the space to other deserving sets), but understand why some might not want to mix the river waters.

Of course, this would be okay in my book, too. :)

Agreed with all this. Excluding the sets from CT calendars is a must though imo to guarantee new blood. God knows we have plenty deserving sets out there.

This was my thoughts also, but didn't want to start an argument over whats CTs and what's PCFs.

IMHO it's all the same community. If a member doesn't want his or her set considered for one calendar or the other, I think we should respect those wishes, but it's the prerogative of the organizers to set up the structure for the calendar otherwise for the benefit of the community. I definitely think it would be to everyone's benefit to not repeat appearances since we have so many spectacular sets which deserve recognition.

Me too, agree with BG and butler. Should be an exciting result!

Personally, I seriously doubt if CT will publish an annual chip calendar this year or in the future - for numerous reasons.

Personally I'd like to see themed calendars. Like 2016: Custom chip sets (Like Iron Bank, Bel Air, Hitching Post etc.) / 2017: Casino chip sets (Terrible's, PNY, Grand Vic, Vineyards) / 2018: Group buy chip sets (GCOP, etc.) / 2019: Home poker sets (LPN, JB, TH&C, etc) / 2020: Live Casino chips (Bellagio, MGM Grand, etc.)

But I can see that some will have a hard time putting a decent collection of good photos together.

Good idea in theory but it's 5 years until custom chips get a spot again. The backlog would be huge.

We could have it that there needs to be x amount of casino sets or something but I'd hate to see a more popular set miss out because of a technicality.

Voting by the actual paying buyers of the calendars seems most logical to me. (misapplied use of the term "you get what you paid for")

I agree. It's seems only fair that members actually purchasing a calendar get final say in what they're paying for.

Here is a list of all previous entries to the CT calendars. Will look up the PCF thread to see who was in it.

Pretty clear that everyone's (myself, Jack, Dave, Chris and Tom is pretty much everyone :)) is for excluding past sets for new calendars. So these will be excluded.

Also is there anyone here that has both PCF and ct calendars and can comment on the quality? It seems the site Tommy used lulu can drop ship which will make things a lot easier.

I was looking at the 2015 calendar by CT. Though I like the photo album layout, I think a full bleed print of a single photo would look better.

The photos I prefer most are of chips on the table., Whether it's a live stack or starting stack, a splashed pot, or chips arranged in an attractive display (like the LPNs with the pineapple, cohiba's, and Mt. Gay rum).

I'm not a big fan personally of photos of racks of chips, neatly ordered sets, or of individual chips. While they are excellent ways to show off chips or sets, they feel too static and lifeless as a composition.

Thats my middle name

But in all seriousness, arent there enough custom or semi custom sets to make up a 12 month calendar? I dont think I would find myself voting for any casino sets, as nice as they might be.

The planning, designing, and all that goes into customs is what I'm personally really intrigued by.

It doesn't have to be produced this year. It can be anything floating out there. Usually some casino sets do make it in.

Actually I think there have been an unusual amount of great sets this year so I don't think finding enough volunteers should be an issue.

in general i agree with this. i don't think we should exclude casino sets from the running, but it would take a ridiculously amazing set (think berg's Dunes) to get me to choose any casino set over a custom.

Good in theory. In practice, shutterfly and other design apps dumb-down the cropping and resolution tools so that often a full bleed pic won't work. You get to put it in a smaller window (also keeps their customer service complaints lower I'm sure when grandma's head was cut off in full bleed). Or in a few cases, the pics you're working with aren't sufficient resolution to use larger images and the set owner doesn't respond.

Full bleeds can be done successfully in Shutterfly. Check out my chips in the 2011 calendar. You do need to center and crop the image carefully, keeping crucial elements away from the margins and remembering that the lower part of the image will be covered by the spiral binding.

The full bleeds by LuLu were pretty good too. Artwork should meet min requirements to be successful.

Absolutely IMO.

I Agree

+1 to good artwork.

Personally, I'd like to make sure that the PCF calendar features only chips found on PCF. I would also like it (when possible) if the contributing members submitted new photos - something that make me drool with new pr0n on every turn of the page. When new shots cannot be submitted (original shots were shot by a professional, chip set was sold, too lazy, etc) we could default to the already seen images, but new shots should be strongly encouraged.

Also, I do not think the chip calendar should be limited to chips.
