I'm hosting my 1st ever tournament in 1 week. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to allow re-buys within the 1st hour only and figured I'd come here for some solid opinions.
Here's some context:
$60 buy-in.
20,000 chips (Common blind structure which estimates a 5-6 hour game) (not a turbo, but not a slow moving structure).
No Add-ons.
Estimated 30-40 starting players.

Appreciate your time answering.

It might be worth looking at the blinds structure and state the rebuy in rounds rather than time - like rebuys for first 3-4 rounds, or until the first break or whatever.

The other key guideline you’ll see is rebuys until the starting/rebuy stack is 20bb at the current blinds level. If you have a 5-6 hour tournament I doubt that the blinds will be that high in less than an hour so you look good there.

Here's some more context (blinds) 20,000 starting chips

(20 min per round)
20-50
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300
Break (color up 25)

I'm considering allowing re-buys up to the 1st break (1hr 40min)
I can't imagine many doing so, but then again, I don't want to assume.

This has worked wonderfully for me

I think you will be fine offering rebuys up to the first break. Is the BB around 500 when you get back? That’s still a decent sized stack to rebuy with. How many take you up on it depends on the individuals and their bankroll… if they’re signed to play poker for 4+ hours they may not want to go home after 90 minutes.

Good question. Next blind after the break is:
200 / 400 (200 ante)

After the break, we start antes paid by the player in the BB. The ante is equivalent to the small blind.
In this scenario, they are rebuying for 50 BB.

It's really just not fun to bust out of a tournament in the first hour and be done, especially before a side cash game gets going. I would try to make a re-buy system work.
