I have a set of 500 Milano's and want to see if it is possible to host a 2 table tournament with 7 or 8 at each table. I have:
100x$25
100x$100
100x$500
100x$1000
75x$5000
25x$10,000

The people playing are, in the nicest way possible, not exactly amazing poker players LOL. Pots get huge fast despite blind levels, so i'm assuming change has got to be made often and stacks should be some what deep so players don't donk off their stack within the first two levels.

My usual preferred starting stack is usually:
Stack A (20k):
8x25
8x100
4x500
6x1000
2x5000

OR:
Stack B (15k):
8x25
8x100
2x500
7x1000
1x5000

I prefer not to buy more chips but if I have to cough up and buy an extra rolls of certain chips I will, any ideas for 14/16 player structures with my stacks?

It seems a little light for as many as 16. Agree that at minimum you could use more 100s.

And especially if rebuys are allowed, I’d also suggest some more 1Ks.

Neither of your preferred stacks add up to the right number. Not sure if typo or you’ve just been playing with less than you thought…but anyway you can get to a 16 player tournament: You can make 12 full 15k stacks of 8/8/2/8/1. Put 6 of these on each table. Then give the other 4 players 18x500, 1x1k, 1x5k. They’ll have to just make change so put 2 of each at each table. This puts your total chip count at 96/96/96/100/16. I’d suggest waiting to color up the 25s and 100s at the same time as they will total 12,000 chips and you can do it with the remaining 4 500s and a pair of 5k. At this point you’ll have 100/100/18 in play. Plenty of room to play with rebuys because of the excess 5k and 10k chips. Just do 1 of each as a rebuy. Or add an extra 5k to each stack and play 20k if you want them deeper. Only issue with the whole format is making change early on but once you have a few knockouts and especially when you get to the final table it should all run smoothly.

Another idea to play with less change making is to eliminate the 25s. 40k stack give everyone 1x10k, 4x5k, 5x1k for their first 35k. Then for the last 5k give 4 players 10x100 and 8x500. Give 10 players 5x100, 5x500, 2x1000. Give 2 players 5x100, 9x500. Total chips in play 100/100/100/64/16. Not much left in the bank here so a freeze out is probably your best option.

My experience is if T25 is your base, you will have less change making if you start with 12x25. If T100 is your base, you need at least 10x100.

Both your stacks seem off. First one is 19K and second is 10K. Both will involve a lot of change-making.

If you have 100 T25s, you could do 5 stacks with 12 and 5 stacks with 8. It's not perfect, but 10 is about the most you could get out of that number without having almost constant change making.

It's also not just the starting stacks. Your blind schedule may affect how much change-making.

I'd count on around 50 chips per player including color up chips, and more if you are going to do rebuys, though if doing rebuys, you need additional higher value chips. Late in the tournament, higher value chips makes play faster by removing a lot of chips. Some people like monster-size stacks at the end, but it takes longer to play that way.

If you start with T25, and someone rebuys, you don't need to add T25s to the table since there should be enough out there already. I would buy for 10 at a table, even if you only allow 9 (or even 8) per table. YMMV.

An extra rack of 25, 100 and 1000 each lets you go 12/12/5/7 for up to 16 people. I personally don't like more than 4 denoms on the table at once, but that's up to you.
