    Oiling Chips Done Right

That's actually a pretty good idea. No clue how far out my order is from arriving but now you've mentioned it I think I will have to do this if nobody else does it before me.

    Oiling Chips Done Right

I’ve done it both ways. With mint chips, with old chips, with recently-TSP’d chips. Mostly on THCs and RHCs, but also older ASMs. If you want a deeper saturation, you can always oil/water them again and *still* be way ahead on time. I find once is more than adequate both to combat that dusty...

    Oiling Chips Done Right

I assumed it just kind of turned into the oiling chips thread, not necessarily that we are only oiling chips using exactly this method. I use something similar to OP but with a lot less oil. It’s also chip-dependent. I’ve had some chips just drink up the oil where others look shiny with just a...

    Oiling Chips Done Right

I found it depends on the colour of the chip. Some colours didn't need or benefit from oil on faces, but others needed oil so faces matched edges in 'pop'.

What is the best method to clean and oil the chips?

Is there a "don't oil your chips" school of thought?

I'm more curious about what the heck going on with the texture of the edgespots and outer two rims: It appears in both of these pairs that the edgespots have zero texture on one chip and not the other, on the chips with the yellowed label. Ditto the two outer rings of the chip. What is...

    Oiling Chips Done Right

i agree with your first statement. And I can’t believe we’ve got 30 pages on oiling, based on some wacky method proposed by a guy who hasn’t been around for a couple of years. As for oil and water method, I’m suspicious, but I’ve never tried it. I’d want to wipe them afterward anyway. And if...

Milano Chips: Review and Cleaning & Oiling Process

I don't really advocate for oiling China Clays. What is often referred to as "chip dust" (which is most likely the lubricant powder residue needed to ensure efficient ejection from the mold) can be cleaned with a little soapy water. The entire plastic composition of the chips doesn't really...

    Oiling Chips Done Right

First column: Newly oiled Second Column: Oiled 24 hours ago Third Column: Unoiled There is very little difference between the ones oiled 24 hours ago and unoiled ones, except along the edges. Where did all that oil go if it wasn’t absorbed by the chip? And if it was, why does it look...

The Official Mail Showcase Thread (poker related)

Awesome mail day over the weekend! Just having a quick sort through everything! I've wanted to create a HU set for a while now - just to extend my Nakatomi universe, MOAR is better right? Worked some most excellent trades with @AK Chip and @ekricket - and am super happy with how it all came...

Tchotchke chip set for sanitization business

That thread is interesting. Ah I see. So not a joke :). Thank you for letting me know what that means. Pity the term was already taken before you all adopted it. In that case, a totally different answer. You have a lot of organic fats you can break down without harming the clay. I'd use...

How to oil Outlaw chips [HELP]

Pretty sure outlaws are plastic. They are advertised as clay but are not clay in the sense of compression molded like Paulsons. I think they typically go for around $0.10-$0.15/chip? Something like that. Post a picture of them and we can tell you if they are “clay” Do not oil them because...

    Heading back to North Carolina

I once had a good experience with regular mineral oil. Cotton swabs for facial care, which I took from my wife and simple mineral oil, for caring for the baby's bottom. It's tedious, sure, but it's safe and sometimes just as effective as powerful cleaning products. This has often worked for...

    Cleaning old plastic chips

Those aren't "plastic"!! They are some old material that's closer to ceramic in sound and feel than anything else I can think of. The one with the crown is around 100 years old. If it was just plain Dawn (no Oxy or anything else) you certainly got grime off of them, but if it was anything...

    #3: Compressed mold chip/button (DIY/polymer clay)

Well done! Happy to see others take a try. Once the chip is cooled off, i scrape the recess with a cutter, to get an even surface. Then sand it both sides & edge. Nice Gear label on top and a small wipe of oil.

Grandpa’s Rounds - A tribute to my grandfather.

I agree the $5s are hot. And I agree that's a lot of oil! Is it the oxidized brass on the $1s that is bothering you? Did you try vinegar + salt soak? Make a difference for me (removed about 95% of the spotting): https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/not-mildew-its-oxidation.110294/post-2276695

    China durability?

Those are not Tina chips. Tina chips are ceramic and those are China clays. While having never owned a set personally ( outside of a sample set ) have seen some reports before about Pharoah's breaking, flaking, and chipping.
