Hi, I was considering buying a set of Verenati chips for small cash games. Then I saw a few post about how the quality in production went down a few years ago.

Does anyone know if this is still the case? If so, is it still worth the .39 cent/chip investment?

Are there any other ceramic chips out there in a similar price range besides Scroll and Nile.

Would Nile chips be better alternative to Verenati if the Verenatis are still having quality issues?

Pretty new to those whole poker chip thing. Appreciate any advice you can give.

Welcome to PCF!

I don’t think Scrolls or Nile Clubs are the answer if you’re concerned about quality. Inexpensive ceramics all have their issues, whether it’s weird texture, slipperiness, spinners, or bad print quality. I think you can do better for about the same price by finding used ceramics in the classifieds, or maybe going with the 43mm Royals from Apache (not ceramic).

If you have your heart set on new ceramics, your best bet is to splurge for customs or semi-customs from ABC Gifts and Awards/BR Pro.

thanks for the advice. I’m assuming laurel crowns also fall under cheap ceramic category?

Don’t think Venerati chips are in production anymore.

Could be wrong

I saw them on this website which appears to be still active. I could be wrong though

Hello and welcome!

How small a cash game?

We either do .25/.50 blinds or .50/1.00 depending on who shows up. Usually 6-8 guys.

Welcome! You may consider broadening your search a bit, there are many ceramics available that are still affordable and a bit better quality. These "cheaper" options tend to handle and stack poorly, which isn't great on the table. I would suggest taking some time to look into your options, buying in haste may not be your best bet.
No matter what, hope you find something to suit your needs!
Best wishes, Brie

You would be correct. Not that inexpensive chips don't have their place, but there's a big difference between the 40¢/chip ceramics, and the nicer ones like ABC sells. Get samples before spending your money.

Also, get an efficient breakdown, and you can buy nicer chips.

As a bad example for your small .25/.50 or .50/1 game, someone may buy a breakdown like this:
.25 x 100
.50 x 200
1 x 200
5 x 100
10x 100
25 x 100

That's 800 chips for a total bank of $4325.

However, this would be much more efficient:
.25 x 100
1 x 200
5 x 200
25 x 80
100 x 20

That's 600 chips for a total bank of $5225, which allows you to buy nicer chips.

I bought a set of the Nile Club when I first upgraded from dice chips. I loved the look of them, but they are slippery. Stacks falling over all the time during a game. I sold them after a couple months. Now I'm on my 3rd run of custom ceramics from ABC.

I’m a newbie here but I can tell you from very recent experience, buy samples from Apache Poker Chips and Br Poker Pro. I did and it made my decision a lot easier.

Thanks for the advice. Just ordered a sample set of the Lucky Dragons from BrPoker

The Verenatis were appealing to me because I could use the blue non denomination to switch between .50 and .25 cents or more flexibility later on. Recently found the Lucky Dragons by BrPoker which also has a non denomination chip. You know anything about those?

The frac flexibility is a good idea. Another possibility is switch to 1/1 for the bigger game. Who’s folding in the small blind in a limped pot anyway.

If it comes from BR Pro, they’ll be nice. As far as I know, all the ABC and BR Pro chips are on the same blank. @ABC Gifts and Awards or someone else can correct me if I’m wrong.

Also, most of their chips are customizable, so if you want to change colors or denominations, they will do that. If you want a non-denom Dia de los Muertos chip, I’m sure it’s doable.

Hello, just wanted to welcome you and it looks like you are getting some great advice here so good luck making your selection.

Is the pink jester nv chip including in the Dia de los Muertos standard chip options or only available in the semi-custom option? I saw it pictured with the other 8 chips but it wasn’t listed off to the side for the standard chip option.

Standard, but can also be semi custom as well.

Haha...first time anyone has mentioned this. Yes, the pink non denominated chip is the standard option.

Figured, but I didn’t want to assume anything. You’re not having a flash sale on these or the dragons anytime soon are you? Asking for a friend....
Nope, nothing coming up except a possible 43mm group buy on Muertos. I probably wouldn't hold my breath on that one either. I have to admit that I'm a bit star struck corresponding with Art Vandelay! :wow:
