The chip that started it all... and the problem one! (1 Viewer)

In terms of noticing nice chips, it was either the Golden Nugget big denoms from High Stakes Poker (like my avatar) or the solid Paulson tourney set from the ‘04 U.S. Poker Championship at the Taj.

That led to discovering the 21ace site, HPT, and the blue wall sometime in the summer of 2005, and buying a set of ‘05 JBs in April 2006.

Fair enough.

These. Bought my first set of 500 with a horrible breakdown for $299 in the early aughts. Sold them years ago. Then in 2019, finally found another set...for a bit more than $299...which isn’t quite ready for its closeup, but will be pretty dang sweet when it is....

Crazy breakdown (we’ve all been there) but awesome chips. Love that fiver.

Upon further reflection, I realized this was mine. I went to a crazy dealer's choice cash game before I really knew how to play, and the host had a set of these (1s, 5s, and 20s). I was so in awe of the chips that I lost all of my money to them in short order, but the thought of playing with "real" chips at home stayed with me. After trying and failing to find those exact chips to buy for myself, I started down my own path which initially led to the TRK King's Crowns referenced above.

As for the problem one, I was going to claim I don't have one, but I suspect this rack may indicate otherwise:

First chip purchase when I discovered I was probably getting in over my head:

First chip purchase when I realized I was a goner and had lost my mind. At $7/chip, 10 years ago.... even I thought it was crazy, but did it anyway:

Sell me a rack of those 20th Century $25s for labeling as a PdC frac? I promise it will only be a label-over. :wow:

I may actually have an extra rack of $25s -- certainly more of those than the $100s, and I typically try to have quantities match for those two denominations.

Maybe a rack of $5s, if non-mint is okay.

Won't be cheap, unless you compare it to today's lunatic market prices. :D Then it seems pretty reasonable.

These were my hook too. I passed on a set way back when, and I have never stopped regretting it.

Yeah I think you might have a problem... :ROFLMAO:

That’s some collection you have. Amazing!!

My first "gotta have it" chips were my PCR tourney set. I always loved the 25 and 100 in the original lineup, but wasn't as big on the pink 500. Then Apache offered a new purple 500 option and I jumped right in. Sold a few years later, my lone chipping sale regret :(

That sale, though helped to fund my "in too deep" purchase.  PNY tourney set. $30 a chip for pumpkins, youch!

They’re awesome. Brilliant that you still have them. I might regret asking this but what the hell is a coon dog?
A coon dog is what boys in the hills call their "raccoon tree dog." Usually a hound dog is what they use to tree raccoons so they can shoot them. "Good" coon dogs are natural at their job like Phil Ivey

First set I absolutely loved, and still do:

The first clay set I got. The first one I sold (to go on a trip with a woman I loved). The first one I regret (the trip is behind me, the woman is gone and I no longer have the set). Suffice to say that for these chips, I would kill anyone!

For me, and I love this post, it was the Pharaoh's. Dam them! Lol!

Here is the very beginning of my path into madness, when chipping was Yin Yang plastics and I was happy. Now I'm broke, and have Paulsons, but I am actually very happy and delighted to own ALL my beautiful chips. They bring me joy!

This was my first ever shipment received back in June. It was a rack of $500s and $1000s of Pharaoh's. The user I bought them from fleeced me really good because I was an idiotic buyer and didn't know a single thing. Great chips though, long since sold. Haha. I bought the Sam's Town $1 with no hope or way of even using them, wanted a real casino Paulson and was very impressed. Never have looked back. Jacks, AS Stamps and ES cash builds all in the rearview now..

EDIT : The problem chip for me has got to be the Jack 43mm Tournament(actually cash I guess, I'm a total scrub donk) chips. Even though I've got enough to spread my games, I still find myself emptying my PayPal to get them. Primary or Secondary for that matter. It's utterly a crazy addiction

We’ve all been a bit “over enthusiastic” and chucked money at people to get our hands on chips. It’s a symptom of the disease  :ROFLMAO:

I still really like the pharaohs. The inlays are awesome.

I found Mardi Gras on eBay, and fell in love. This was before I ever saw a PCA chip... Thankfully, finally acquired a set Ben and both love alot!
My problem chip is/was PCA $500 lol I paid $37 per chip for my original 20 PCA $500 secondaries... and have yet to score the quantity I need at a price I'm happy with for primaries
