What’s the one chip that you saw and thought “I need to buy these” that started you and your ever decreasing bank balance on the road to chipping?

This is mine. Bit predictable but I still don't think there’s a better $1 out there...

And the second part of the question. Which chip that you came across once you got into chipping made you know that you were in deep and would probably never get out?

Here’s mine. When I payed $12 a chip I realised I had a problem... :ROFLMAO:

WTHC 1 for me too. Not many like the 100 from the set but I would have to say it is second for me.
On the second question I'm trying to control myself but this forum is not the way to do that. lol

Ooh, good thread!

For me, it was the Paulson NPS chips that set me on the path to donkey scrubbing. Looking for an upgrade to my dice chips, I stumbled across some photos of these on the internet, which inevitably lead me to PCF. At the time, the thought of dropping $2.50-3.00/chip was insane to me, just insane. I reasoned however, that it would be a set to last a lifetime and that once I had them, that would be it.

Fast forward approximately one year and we come to the answer to part two of your question: the Big Top Poker chips.

$8/chip+ for a set of mint custom IHC Paulsons with a circus theme? Where do I sign? Yes... it was then I realized that I might have a (small) problem. :ROFLMAO:

The NPS set has great colours but the 5 is absolutely horrible  :ROFLMAO:

Do you enjoy getting the BTPs into play or are you on a knife edge in case one gets chipped?

Weird, I actually really like the $5 chip! :ROFLMAO: :bag:

When I first got the NPS chips, I was a bit nervous about getting them into play, but with time that subsided. Truth be told, I wish I could get the BTPs into play more often. Sadly it's like pulling teeth here sometimes trying to get games organized.

Chips are meant to be played with imo. That said, if someone splashes the pot or (God forbid) drops one on the floor, they're getting a stern warning from me! :ROFLMAO:

I’m going to have nightmares about that 5. It’s rotten

I think you’ll need to introduce a yellow card / red card system for any offenders...

Borrowed @Tommy photo.

These were the chips that started it all for me. I almost pulled the trigger for a set. Then in discussion with Dennis, I learned that I could make a custom set. I hesitated and shortly after, he closed up shop.
Lesson learned. Always pull the trigger and ask questions later  :ROFLMAO:

I went from dice chips to Paulson Pharaohs. I loved the different artwork on every chip. I had almost 4000 of them before selling them to buy a few casino sets from the Chiproom.

This set was part of the reason I wanted to do different inlays on my custom set.

My “I have a problem chip” was the PCA secondary $5. I had several used Paulson sets but I ordered a small mint secondary cash set for special occasion games. Once I got them I was in love and knew right then I was done with casino used sets. I sold off my Empress and PCA primary chips and bought a lot more secondary PCA’s.

I was torn between WTHC and Pharaoh’s. I preferred the Pharaoh’s inlays but the WTHC edge spots won me over.

WTHC weren’t out out yet when I started buying or it would have been a much harder choice! Also the Suites mold for the WTCH Chips is soooooo much better.

I started cheap with JD plastic chips back in the late 70's while in the military. Not even slugged! lol

They’re awesome. Brilliant that you still have them. I might regret asking this but what the hell is a coon dog?

Arg, I don't have them anymore. Sold them on eBay to buy better chips

Coon dog is like a hound and they apparently play good poker lol

I love my first set of Paulsons... I still think my ACES are amazing!! It took a lot of bargaining and help from many PCF members to build my set!

Now the chip when I knew I had problems... when I knew we were hooked and there is no way out!

Even at $15 each they are nearly impossible to find... hopefully someday I can locate one of the very few existing racks! All I can say is good luck not catching the TRK bug... you definitely hve to throw words like reason and affordability out the window in this quest!! Awesome thread @BonScot!!

Loving those aces. Thankfully I don’t get the whole TRK thing. That should save me a few quid  :ROFLMAO:

I don't know how I stumbled upon it, but for me, it was seeing @Tommy 's custom Broken Bell set on Instagram that put me down this path. I remember even messaging him if I could buy them haha.

Whenever I see HHRs I want to murder them. Still got some gear labels in the cupboard that are crying out for HHR chips... :ROFLMAO:

In terms of noticing nice chips, it was either the Golden Nugget big denoms from High Stakes Poker (like my avatar) or the solid Paulson tourney set from the ‘04 U.S. Poker Championship at the Taj.

That led to discovering the 21ace site, HPT, and the blue wall sometime in the summer of 2005, and buying a set of ‘05 JBs in April 2006.
