Starting work on a new tournament set and looking for input on color sequence. Have some ideas for "standard" colors and for cali-like set as well. Was also inspired by someone else's pastel colored set (sorry can't remember who) Working with J5 on an inlay, leaning towards a dark inlay like the Bellagio/Aria inlays. Also leaning towards a set of solids on the H molds.

#1 - A somewhat standard set of colors. Not sure about the dark colors with the dark inlay

I've been contemplating a similar solid set. Based on my colour samples, I would avoid combinations of light green, light blue, and grey. In my case, they blend together when mixed across the table, and without edge spots to distinguish them, it's a dirty stack nightmare waiting to happen.

Of the options presented, I would go with #4 or #5, but with green instead of light green and charcoal instead of grey.

#'s 3 and 4 are probably my favorites at the moment, with #5 a distant third. Just not digging 1 and 2 for some reason. I would have to look at the gray/light blue/green combos with a sample set though... remember how everyone thought my gray quarters were light blue?
 
#3 is my favorite. #1 is just asking for major problems differentiating between the green, charcoal and blue solids I would guess.

CBL mentioned the light green/light blue/gray chips as well... I'll play with sample a bit. The light green and gray would not be on the table at the same time

I think they would be in set #5. Replace the grey with charcoal or blue, though.

If you don't have any H-mold chips, I would suggest getting some samples of the Key West roulette chips (link).

Black labels, solid colours, H-mold in light green, light blue, dg pink, blue, dg yellow (I had thought it was canary...oh well), and lavender. It was shuffling two sample sets of these that made me realize I couldn't have light blue and light green together on the table. In checking my samples with them, I think light green and grey will work ok, actually. But light blue and grey are a problem.

good idea...Key West sample set ordered. I have ASM color samples, but not on the H mold.
I can see where all 3 of these colors in a splashed pot might be a problem
 
#3 appeals to my eye the most right out of the gate.

I like the 1st three chips in # 2 and think they would go with your Penn State theme. The brown especially and yellow seem out of place though

#WeAre -- You have to go with the set with the Navy Blue (Retro Blue). You know why.....
 
Received the Key West samples last week and have been playing with them a bit. It turns out that the green chip is DG Green, not Light Green. Got a nice email from Dennis explaining
what it was, how it got changed....all involving our man Mr. Ott at ASM Las Vegas.. their website has been updated with the correct color.
I think the DG Green might have enough contrast with the Light Blue to be in the same set... still thinking.

Here's an update to #3 from the original post (let's refer to it as #3a) and a similar set which would not have DG Green and Light Blue on the table at the same time

Good to know. I have two samples, and they are definitely light green to my eyes

Either that, or the sample colour set I have is mis-labeled. (hope not...). I like the set JButler posted, but agree with Puggy that the charcoal might be too close to the retro blue. Grey ir Light Blue might work better if the retro blue is in there. IN any event, I would agree that DG Green would work with the Light Blue.

Got a new sample set today ... my old set was, well, old so it didn't have Retro Blue, DG Tiger etc
After playing a bit, I'm leaning towards this...

The DG Tiger doesn't seem as bright/bold as in the pics

Other considerations for the 5k -- Pink, DG Pink, Retro Lavender

Liking it, but need to see the samples in person. Also, the snotty green chip tool background color is tilting me! Looks so much better on the gray background the jbutler posted.

Dump the lavender and use white as 500 and saturn as 1000. Tiger would make a nice 5K chip on top of the resulting set.

Or go cali-colors: lavender 25, white 100, blue 500, tiger 1000, yellow 5000. That's a pretty sharp lineup.

I like this lineup with the DG tiger but am thinking of a slightly different order: DG green 25, bright white 100, light gray 500, DG blue 1k, DG tiger 5k.

Once you color up the 25's you get nothing but Penn State chips on the table, but you'd probably want more bright white (100's) and DG blue's (1k's) in play than gray 500's.
 
After more thought and consultation, I think we're down to one of these two... only the $25 is the different.
Thanks of BGinGA for the suggestions that led to this and to jbutler for the Retro Blue suggstion
I used Canary instead of DG Saturn as some suggested... I think it's got a bit too much of a hint of green
Also considered DG Yellow instead of Canary so that all the chips were unweighted, but I think the Canary pops a bit more than the DGY and I think that outweighs having all unweighted chips
I'm open to moving the chip order, but my idea was to keep the Blue & White on the table as much as possible in keeping with the Happy Valley theme
We also thought that at the end of the tourney, the last 3 chips would look pretty good on the table together
