Disappointing classifieds sale (1 Viewer)

One of those weird situations where it’s hard to put standards on everything.

If I had connections and I was able to get custom Paulsons at $1.x a chip, I certainly would not sell it to the PCF community for my cost. I’d certainly want a nice margin, because I’m the one with the connection and got it done.

I agree to a point. My response was to members that buy "specifically" to sell for a profit. I believe that happened in a few instances. Then add to the fact that a shit ton of members got defensive on both sides and it was a shit storm (I was also part of that problem).

If I just bought some chips from another member for below market value or as some sort of goodwill gesture, I certainly also would not flip it immediately for a profit.

I kind of agree with a few things that your saying. I hate answering shit and sounding like I'm walking a fence on it.

And of course your "no sell" list includes all those who buy chips at face in casinos and resell them for more than a nominal markup?

I never said I had a no buy/sell list. I was just responding to a post with my opinion. I have never blocked anyone for their sales/purchases. I have bought and sold to anyone that is interested.

If I "block" someone it is solely because how they either treat myself, or other members on the forum.

Of course you mean people who did that *with the intention* of selling them at a crazy profit, right?

Or is it just the booze overriding your charitable nature?

I'm not quite sure what you mean. I'm not currently hammered up. Work frowns upon that :)

I've made a a few dollars here and there on some sales. Mostly I lose a few bucks (or more). I wouldn't call it charitable. Just the way it is. Collecting, buying, and selling poker chips is my hobby. I love this shit. I have honestly tried to stop caring what people buy/sell for because as it has been stated a thousand times. If I don't like it, don't buy it. So I don't.

Okay. I love you forever for this. We're Bros now.

Just to clarify

I never said I “blocked” anyone. I said I put them on my do not buy/sell list.

A little background

When I first signed up I had a couple of sales where I got taken advantage of.

First in price, which was my own fault for not doing more homework on said chips.

And secondly on the chips condition. Which were known by most members, but not by me. Again I take responsibility for that.

They could have been more upfront about condition and I learned my lesson. (Yeah I know it took a couple of times :banghead:) this was done by members in good standing also.

So I can understand superchromix feelings on this. It took me a while to start trusting members after these transactions. I think that is where @superchromix is coming from. If I didn’t have some other members that I could talk to about this I would have left the forum and not have had the pleasure to meet and converse with all the fabulous members here.

Did you add all the people that bought the boat chips and btp chips at the initial buy in prices and then sold them for a crazy profit?

I hope you aren’t referring to the auctions. I wouldn’t blame anyone for those. If someone is willing to pay crazy money then who are we to tell them they can’t.

We as chippers can bring down any chip price. Just don’t buy them. I know I haven’t and will not out of principle.

Referring to the boat chips.

Let me provide that situation. Let's say we have a member we'll call "Strawjack". Let's say we get along well and have made deals via PM several times. He sells me a rack of coveted Moopes 1s at 1500 bucks. Then they go up in value to 2000 or much more in a auction feeding frenzy....but I have another friend, nasal45 who has helped me before and would love to have those chips. That friend will get every opportunity to buy them at 1500. Otherwise they would get sold for 2000+ in a classified ad. Price absolutely depends on the buyer to me. I'd say 75% of the chips I've sold have never been "listed"...we are talking about tens of thousands of chips....

Chip karma is very real to many people here. Others operate as business people without regard to anything but the bottom line. That is what differentiates a chipper from a flipper for me.

Pretty much this...

Stop all the pearl clutching about selling for a profit. It happens in every market place and this is a market place. Some get good deals and some don't. Caveat Emptor

eBay is a marketplace because it's mostly unknown people.

I think this place is a hybrid. Among some, it's a marketplace, no different than eBay. Buyers/sellers are unknown. But among members that have become friends, deals are given. Some do not treat this as a marketplace even among unknowns...they pass on good deals.

That's the OP's issue... He gave a deal, and his buyer flipped (and possibly misrepresented condition), taking profit out of @superchromix's pocket and putting it in his own.

Didn't you end up buying boat chips??? Im assuming someone did you a solid and sold them at only a moderate mark up and not the crazy prices that others were willing to pay?

As much as it would be great to assume that everyone was fair and straight down the middle it is as someone else said in this thread a case of “buyer beware”. I’ve certainly knowingly overpaid for chips that I needed to complete a set so it’s that old saying “something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it”.
As long as the new buyer went into it with their eyes open then no harm done.
If the buyer from the OP bought the chips (crisps) with the intention to flip then it’s a bit shitty. But if they sat on them for a few months and saw that they were becoming rarer or worth more then that’s life.
Anyway in other news I’ve got a huge spot on the side of my head and it’s really sore...

Have any of those Moopes 1s available?
:D

PCF may not be a marketplace, but does have a classified section. eBay IS a marketplace...Can we move all the auctions and flippers to eBay please, and leave the classified for the non-douchey members to buy/sell at reasonable prices/markups?

P.S. I wish PCF had a tool (similar to favorites) so I could easily keep track of people who are on the DNB/DNS list

Yes. I bought a set from @inca911 for a smallish mark up. Two things mattered. The mark up was something that I was fine with and I highly respect the seller. So I was good with it. I used them three times and sold them for a small loss (like 50 bucks).

FWIW, I didn't say (or mean) that everyone that purchased chips and re sold them were assholes. Only the members that I "perceived" bought these chips for the sole purpose of making as much money off of them that they could.

Again, part of this is my personal problem. I used to view PCF as my online community. Almost my second family. Apparently I took my feelings to far for a website. @Tommy built a fantastic place and it sucked me in. When I saw members taking advantage of other members it pissed me off. I probably acted inappropriately.

It’s a great website and community. I’ve not been on long but really enjoy it. Unfortunately you’re going to get snakes everywhere so just need to be a bit careful when money’s involved. Some folks aren’t interested in making profit. They’re happy to be taking part in what’s a good wee hobby. Other people don’t do anything unless there’s an angle and something in it for them.
There you go PCF is a metaphor for life itself...

Got any 4Queens qpie 1s to trade? :sneaky:
I only have some 3queebs 1/2 pies if interested.. ;)

unfortunately, I only wish I had some 4queens as I would trade those in a minute for those elusive (um, I mean illusive) Moopes..

I don't see any issue with the original situation .... as this happens all the time in the pinball world. If a seller and buyer are comfortable at the price agreed on, it shouldn't matter what the buyer now sells them at later on. The original seller got the amount they wanted.

People will go around and buy up a ton of pinball machines on the cheap ...they will see something for sale and quickly snatch it up. They will play it for a day, then sell it at a huge markup. The posts (Pinside is the PCF of pinball) about how they are flippers and how they are taking good priced games away from others appear and angry people argue. At the end of the day, the game will sit at the high price, or the price comes down until both sides agree on a price. I had an Indiana Jones pinball for sale at $6500 two months ago..... after the half price lowball offers, it sat for a while. Someone offered $6k and I agreed. If he decided to sell it for $7000 this summer (or even next week), I am not going to be upset as I was happy at $6k.

I sold some of my BTP oversized recently. No secret as to what they cost originally. I put a price on them (based on what I saw boat chips going for in the past) which was way above my original purchase price. It was a feeding frenzy. They all sold, but with many making offers. I still went in order and in the end, people payed what they were comfortable at (offers accepted). Can they flip them for even more next week .....sure they can. Will I be upset at it ..... nope and I shouldn't be. We agreed to a price and I shipped them out.

Years ago, I put together a massive Aztar set (cash and tourney). I know that most of those chips were bought for 29c each, 39c each, $1 each. I paid 5-8 times that to put my set together (I did get a few hundred cheap but needed an extra 3000 chips from others). I paid asking (or made a reasonable offer), and I don't blame the sellers for marking them up. I paid what both of us were comfortable at, and moved on (had some great years with those chips and some great card games). When it came time to sell, I didn't get what I paid for, but I'm not complaining, it happens.

Its the circle of life for me... make some here, lose some there.

Pinball flippers... who’d have thought it? :ROFLMAO:

Personnaly, I don't understand the complaint. You sold them and someone bought them. If he can resell them to make some money, he owns them at this point and why shouldn't he if he can. I buy off-road vehicles like Jeeps and Land Cruisers to flip them and make money. They have no right to the vehicle once they sell it.

Dave's reply covers that point

Ah, but that's the rub. Not everyone considers PCF a marketplace, or only primarily interested in maximizing profits from others here.
