Ultrasonic Chip Cleaning (5 Viewers)

is there any good ultrasonic cleaners you folks recommend for under 100$

@davin Check the link that I posted today in this thread. That cleaner is under $100 and seemed to be the main cleaner referenced throughout for it's dual transducer and size. It makes cleaning a breeze.

i would buy it but they won't ship to hawaii

Really! That is quite interesting. I basically stopped following the situation once I decided to clean my binions manually. That is very curious. I wonder if it had something to do with color.

It might. My previous two "problems" were with shades of Green. This is the first time I've had a problem with a White chip. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but the last Green and this White were weighted because I can see the metal flakes easily. I wonder if there's a major difference in "clay" constituents between the weighted and unweighted chips?

Also I have some canary yellow chips that are starting to show dirt on the edges that I can never get clean. Will TSP be able to clean these?

So there's a clean stack that I haven't even payed with on the left and on right is a stack that gets used regularly (note the discolored chips near the top of the stack)

Chip faces (second from the right is one of the dirty ones)

The drain valve is nice, but I wouldn't say it's a game changer. I have the 6L and the main advantage that I see is that the salad spinner fits well in it and it controls splashing. Is there any way for us PCFers to help ship to you?

I used to be into saltwater fish tanks and TDS is very important when maintaining a healthy tank. Here's some details:
The "total dissolved solids" (TDS) is a measure of how much stuff (typically good minerals) is in your water. Highly-purified water (distilled, reverse-osmosis, other highly-filtered) has a TDS well below 50mg/liter. Distilled water ought to have TDS=0. "Hard water" or mineralized water often has TDS > 200.

I'm wondering if it is save to use this. I think someone recommended against the ultrasonic cleaning stuff.
But I also have no idea which TSP would be save to use since the US brands are not available here…

EDIT: went through the thread again and couldn't find anyone using a dedicated ultrasonic cleaning solution...

anyone know or tried the smaller 3L unit, reason i ask is that's the only one with shipping to hawaii, the other sizes won't ship to hawaii.
i did notice the 3L doesn't have a drain valve so that sucks.

I have that model in a 2L model. Don't really need a drain since the unit is so small, trick is to not do too many chips at one time. I do ten chips, 2 minutes, and rotate as I lay them out with a new batch. Takes about 20 easy minutes a rack, but it's super painless...

Any ideas what went wrong for me?

So I followed OP instructions and got mixed results. TL/DR = some batches fine, other batches got damaged hotstamps.

Vevor 6l ultrasonic, salad spinner, blue milk carton tsp, heat water to 43c, rotating about 1/2 turn per 1 or 2 seconds.

Tested a mixed barrel of Paulson hotstamps and they came out super clean and no damage to hotstamps. Total time 2 minutes.

I moved on to clean a few barrels of Gulfport Grand Casino 25s, also no problem. Then moved on to my Calgary 25s, reduced total time to 1m30s, and about half the hotstamps came out damaged. Some very much so. I only really noticed once they were dry the next day.

Strange that a variety of 20+ different Paulsons would come out 100% fine, then the Calgary spends less time and gets damaged. Any ideas?

I'm hesitant to use it again.

I still have 3 racks of heavily gunked Grand Casino 25s, and lots of racks of slightly dirty chips I'd like to clean.

Pics show before & after Grand Casino 25s, then other randoms, then finally damaged Calgary 25s.

(Lots more were tested with success, these are just examples.)

Not to be a twit, but I think the short answer is that not all hotstamps are the same. This has happened to me as well -- and of course, when I want to remove the hotstamp foil, they are inevitably the kind that are impervious.

I don't use real phosphate TSP, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I've cleaned many mint hot stamps with the metasilicate (non-phosphate TSP) detergent, and have not noticed any problems.

Was kind of thinking along those lines. Not twit, but variance in hotstamp durability. ;)

I guess each rack I do will have to be tested 1st, and probably shorten time to 30-45 seconds per batch.

30-45 seconds are probably enough for not-dirty-enough-to-see to lightly-dirty chips. Only the grungiest nasties need the full 2 minute (or longer) workover.

Would an ultrasonic be able to clean these marks? I already gave 'em a good scrubbing w/ a toothbrush+Dawn, i'm satisfied that the hooker juice was cleaned off, but these rack-check marks are some of the most vicious that I've ever seen. Any tips, or should I just invest in a ultrasonic cleaner?
