I mentioned to Jake that I made a lightly buzzed 1k offer for some chips. Colleen gasped, and was shocked about spending 1k on chips. Apparently she doesn't realize what I have invested in chips (not that it comes out of work monies anyway).

I dread the day my wife and I ever have a serious conversation about how much money I have tied up in poker chips.

Her main complaint I see being “We could have taken the kids to Disney with that much money!” Even though we have a vacation fund to do exactly that with lol!

The reality is... money spent on chips is (mostly) recoverable. Money spent on Disney is not. Perhaps that's an unfair example, but that's how I see it. That's not to infer buying clay circles is more important than making memories with the family.

Just tell her it’s an investment using bankroll funds and that once you hit a certain amount you will make a (small) percentage withdrawal to pay for a future holiday.

She knows anything I buy comes from poker money, and since I give her 10% of all my winnings she has a pretty good idea of how much I have won. While she knows I have spent some of it, I’m pretty she thinks a lot more of it is liquid than it really is. Which is part of why I need to sell before I buy more chips lol!!

Otherwise I’d have already bought a rack of secondary PCA $25’s and a rack of AS $25’s and the 3 racks of HS tri-moon snappers!!
