Cash Game Heads Up Poker Set Breakdown (1 Viewer)

I have accepted that my weekly home game has fallen apart and no longer running. I am done trying to chase down people after people bail out at the last minute. Turning my attention to heads up poker which Is much easier to get a game going. What’s the ideal chip count to play anything 5c/10c to 2/5 and possibly 5/10? Looking forward to buying by the barrel instead of by the rack.

Maybe I am underthinking this, but how about 50 .05, 100 .25s, 100 1s, 100 5s, 100 25s, 50 100s? 500 chip set.

Starting stacks include 20 of whatever the ante chip would be and then 30-50 of the workhorse chip? Rebuys can be the next chip up.

So for example $10 for for 5c-10c could be 20 5c, 36 25c. Add $1 for rebuy or to enlarge stacks.

You can have very comfortable 50+ chip stacks at any stake with this type of breakdown.

Just noticed you mentioned buying by the barrel, amend to 60 nickels, 40 hondos in that case to stay at 500.

I agree with this.

I'd prefer to have a few different sets in the 150-200 count range than one set of 500 that might cover everything.

My fiancé enjoys learning/playing poker but doesn’t feel like playing for high stakes. My dad enjoys playing 25c/50c over some scotch when we get together. Some friends play 1/2 or 2/5. Recently started playing some 5/10 with a guy from work. I don’t really care about the stakes, just love playing the game. Part of the reason it’s been challenging getting a consistent game, people can’t agree on stakes.

Depending on which sets you are considering, I’d imagine it would also be easier to find a few consecutive denominations of a given chip line than, say, the six or seven denominations it might require to cover everything with one set.

You can get a nice tournament set with 100 chip count. I think you might need a bit more for a cash set. I'm thinking around 200 would be ideal. Mostly because it tilts me to have less than a full rack in a set...

Not a bad idea. I generally prefer denominations but if you really want a small set to spread a wide variety of limits that's probably the best way to go.

I use this. It’s presently got 32 quarters, 64 ones, 18 fives, 4 twenty fives, and two hundreds. For a .25/.50 heads up game, it’s plenty. Ideally it would have more fives and fewer ones, but these particular fives are expensive and hard to find, so I’m working on it.

I might go that route. Thats a nice little set you got there. Plenty of options going this route for all sorts of different chips for each set of stakes.

How about denominated but without currency symbols? So get a 1/5/25 set and play it as:

5¢/25¢/$1 for nano-stakes or
25¢/$1/$5 for micro-stakes or
$1/$5/$25 for larger stakes
