My father was a three+ pack per day chainsmoker.

Even so he still went outside our house to smoke, in all weather, to spare us kids.

I’m betting you could manage to step outside for a 20-second vape pull.

P.S. Smoking killed him.

Just say no. Period. It is your home, your game. No smoking/vaping is a common situation in millions of commercial spaces. If a player can't abide by the rule, so long - not going to miss you.

Your house, your rules. You shouldn’t feel bad about enforcing the new rule. The fiends will adapt or leave - the adapters will either take the elevator ride as needed, accept vaping out of an open window (assuming that’s OK with you), or start to use the nicotine pouches for poker nights.

(Long time smoker, quit a couple years ago with the help of vaping, now trying to quit vaping with the help of nicotine pouches)

FWIW, I vape at home but I do it out of an open window…and I would never expect a non-smoking/vaping host to allow me to do it inside.

Set the rule and explain why. They will grumble, but it’s your house. Nicotine is addictive, so some people won’t love it, but they can step outside or wait for a break like they do everywhere else.

Your house, your rules. All you gotta do is say 'sorry guys, I've decided not to allow smoking or vaping inside'. That's literally it. Someone might be annoyed, because it's a change for the worse in their view, but really. Second hand smoke or vape is just unpleasant for everyone else.

Cigars in the cigar lounge.
Cigarettes, weed, crack, vape, etc, please go outside. There are comfy chairs on the deck. Winter and cold? Sorry, can't control the weather, but cigarettes stay outside.

In all seriousness, I don't have that exact problem. I do require smokers to go outside, but even though I provide a big ashtray for them on my back deck, SOMEONE IS STILL FLICKING BUTTS INTO MY YARD!

I have to ask. And I'm admittedly ignorant of cigar culture so maybe this is common. But you have a place indoors where you'll allow cigar smoke, but not cigarette or weed smoke, or vaping?

That's more or less correct. I mean, if the lounge is already in use, vent system running etc, sure... Go ahead and light whatever.
But if I were to open up that door, people would go there, have a cigarette or a joint, best case turn off the vent system when they leave the room and the smoke would still linger and it would start smelling like hell.

I vape and I ban the vapes indoors if my children are home or will be that night. Sometimes they do a sleepover with the grandparents during game nights, then I allow vaping at the tables.

Smoke sticks though due to the tar, so that always has to go outside.

No one has ever asked me to vape or smoke at my game. The guys the do just voluntarily go outside.

You do realize casinos don’t allow it and haven’t for years. Even when smoking is allowed on the casino floor it’s banned at poker tables…at least at the major casinos (cant speak for small random card rooms). I always imagined it was due to the close proximity of 9 people at one table.

I think I remember people smoking at a 7 card stud table in the late nineties at the now demolished and crappy Sands in AC..but I could be wrong. But never any time or place after.

If casinos don’t allow it why should they expect you to? Especially in 2026 when hardly anyone smokes anymore.

I've seen people openly vaping at the tables in Vegas more recently. Not a lot, just here and there, and I was surprised the dealers never said anything to them.

i didn't think anybody cared. I guess they do. It's funny, because I smoke sometimes, but I can't stand the smell of other people's cigarettes. But vapes don't bother me.

One night last summer at Borgata, the floor manager got on the microphone and reminded everyone that vaping was not allowed. He was walking across the floor as he was talking and went up right behind a player with a vape in his hand and kept repeating “just so everybody understands, vaping is not permitted on the Poker room floor and you will be ejected“ while staring at the guy. He finally turned around and everyone got a good laugh.
