Hello chippers, I have a question.
What is the story with the old Circus Circus $100 spot pattern?
Was it an old spot pattern that’s now defunct?
If so why do we not see it on any other chips? Or we do and I’m just not looking hard enough.

Cheers for any info.

As a fellow owner of the chip (assuming that one in the pic is yours), I also am curious about the spot pattern. However, the mystery is part of why I love the chip so much. I’ve never seen that spot pattern and it’s full of beautiful colors that all shine under black light.

Under that same light it was thought that we might see inserts masked by being the same color, which other chips have used. However, there was no evidence of this from what I saw.

The hypothesis was maybe there was an edge spot pattern with six 1/8” spots, 4 being radiant red (or watermelon or something) and the other two being peach and Indian blue. Which still could be true, but maybe someone else like @BGinGA could enlighten us on the matter.

I see… yeah cheers for that.

Is this like how the old Mirage $25 sometimes show outline for a 4TSA18 pattern?

CC Reno truely is a great chip and I thought would be more info out there on it.
I think I’ve only noted 2 become available in the last couple years.

I don’t have much information about that chip, but it looks like it was a sloth claw (aka bear claw, aka some other name I’m too lazy to look up) and the middle color is the base color from the looks of it.

It’s a very rare chip, especially in the condition I have. There was some that were notched. I actually bought two from Spinettis which were the only ones they had. I got lucky both times to be ready when they were made available. Unfortunately the second one was not at all in the same condition the picture seemed to portray but I was able to get a refund at least (I really wanted to have more to potentially felt but the two different conditions was really tilting).

Never seen it before

Not an expert by any means, but I’d guess Paulson was simply flexible with a customer who requested custom spots. They had the equipment to make these, it’s just a novel combination to stick together and press into a chip

This makes sense.
I have done similar to customs (use the base color as one of the spots).
My result did not achieve what I wanted (44mm 4d14 with one spot using the base color), but I am sure others have done better to make a unique pattern.

For what its worth CPC has this spot pattern.... Maybe Paulson copied them?
Well it looks like CPC started around 2013 (the chip was made in the 80s) but it’s based from the Burt Co and they were the ones that supplied Paulson with edge spot inserts.

Can you show me some chips with this edge spot pattern, I haven’t seen them in the CPC mockup tool…

Not exactly the same but the same spirit, with the centre spot being larger than the two adjacent spots.

time for a tribute set perhaps?

Also the history at cpc goes beyond 2013. I was just putting out an alternative hypothesis as knowing really knows the origin of the spot pattern.

We need some more heavyweights to get involved here.

@sleepypiggly . Any ideas?

That is really close and they could easily have made the middle insert 1/2” instead of 1/4”

Nonono lol

Yeah, I don’t know much about CPC other than what it said on the website with them starting in 2013 and Jim from Burt Co coming out from retirement to help.

The history of chip making is quite interesting :)
