Plaques>? (1 Viewer)

I like plaques as well, but I think in terms of playability they generally take away from it. I think it depends on use case as well though:

Cash game: Good for $20-$100 'chips', depending on the stakes, to add bank to the game
Tournament: Bad overall since chips are moving around so much, I'd only use them for the highest possible denomination in a set, but even then, I'd rather an oversized tournament chip for a T25K or T100K over a plaque

My crew loves, loves, loves em. And they will fight harder for a pot that has a plaque in it for some reason.

I’m on the fence with plaques but am 100% on board with larger 43mm high denoms.
I'm going to go out on a limb and also assume that people who play more often prefer chips, newbies love plaques because they are super cool lol

because they are super cool
Yes, yes they are.

BTW - we need a plaques pr0n/showcase thread if we don’t have one already.

We use them in our cash games and some of my guys will try harder to win the pot if a plaque gets tossed in (I may or may not be one of those players). I don't have plaques in any of my tournament sets.

I've played places that have them, and I can say without a doubt that I HATE THEM! They take up to much real-estate, they usually are very slick/slippery and we're just a pain in the a ss. They look cool, we all remember seeing them in movies, James Bond etc, usually in Monte Carlo, or some other European locale... andwhen the chance to have them in a game came up everyone thought "how cool!" I don't think they are, and, could be a deal breaker for me to playing.

I love the plaque Pron, but personally I’m not a fan of using them in games. Prefer to stick to just chips.

The one exception is if using the Casino Royale set for a fun, theatrical, family high stakes game.

I’m a big fan of plaques for the bigger demons in my cash games. Since we usually buy-in for $20-$25 it’s pretty sweet to have the plaques out.
For my .10/.50/2/10/50 set the 10s and 50s are fun to bust out. I have $20 for my .25/1/5/20 set, working on a design for $100

I pulled out a couple $20s and handed them to the guy re-buying and the look he gave me was like I handed him two bananas.

Probably wears white after Labor Day, too. 🙄

Plaques when used infrequently can be cool. I definitely wouldn't want to play with them every week as the novelty would wear off quickly I'm afraid.

The plastic ones can look amazing

but imo the feel & weight isn't great when played with clay chips.

Ceramic plaques definitely feel better to me when played with clay chips but are definitely not as durable & are prone to chipping. (no pun intended)

Bottom line: as always do what makes you & your group happy. I don't have any plastic sets but my guess is plastic plaques would work best with them.
