And we are, until you piss us off. Then we aren't.
To be fair we are almost all of the time but I also think that of everyone. I don't think most people are bad.

So I empty diabetes donations bins as a second job. It's not terrible to do. Takes 10-14 hrs a week to do and I can make my own hours to empty the bins. There's always someone who leave stuff outside of the bins and alot of the time I see it during my day job and it's gone in the evening when I go to empty the bins. I have to assume if your taking this stuff you must need it more than me.

The person who took these might not be a bad person either. They might be just going through a tough time. Alternatively they might just be an Ahole but if your stealing deliveries it's got to be a tough go.

It always astounds me the effort that some people will go to to make a dishonest buck, and how stupid some of them are in doing so.

I used to work for the provincial electricity utility. People would use cordless saws (probably stolen) to cut through the metal substation fences and steal all of the ground conductors from the metal structures. Each ground was less than a foot long of exposed Copperweld (copper coated aluminum). The stuff was basically worthless as scrap, but they would take dozens of them in a night, thinking it was the more valuable copper. This cost the utility tens of thousands of dollars to repair a single nights "work". On at least one occasion, workers found the smoldering charred body of a copper thief inside the station fence.

In another case, a group of thieves stole all the cables from a couple of spans of telephone poles. One of the cables was 125 conductor #22 copper (very thin telephone wires, with each conductor individually insulated, and the entire bundle insulated and jacketed), but the other two conductors were fibre optic cables. After burning off all of the wire insulation, they probably got less than $100 for the copper (not a lot for the amount of work involved), and the fibre optic cable had no resale value at all. Cost of repair was in the tens of thousands of dollars.

One enterprising group stole all of the streetlight conductors from a local bridge span. They had an unmarked white van, and a couple of people in hi-vis vests acting as traffic control (complete with pylons and stolen highway worker signs), and they worked all night. The news reported that the value of the stolen copper was less than $1500, and it cost over $150,000 to get the lighting back in working condition.

The chips will probably be sold for a tiny fraction of their value. If thieves spent a fraction of the effort they use to steal and sell for a few quick bucks on getting a real job and earning an honest buck, they would probably be a lot further ahead. But I suspect that most of them are unemployable due to substance abuse, mental health issues, or just not wanting to punch a time clock.

General recommendation to US chippers:

I know this does not help the current situation (which absolutely sucks), but I'd recommend getting a PO box. This obviously won't stop sticky fingers while a given box is in transit, but it will mitigate things being nabbed off front porches.

Given the price of chips these days, spending a few dollars a year on a PO box pales in comparison.

The only other issue with this option is that with a PO box you're limited to USPS or Fedex. UPS and DHL do not deliver to these.

Sorry to hear about this.

@MatrixExplosion should call the police and report the theft. They'll also know if anyone else in the neighborhood got hit.

Check with neighbors. Ask if they have ring cameras. The police may also do this.

If they do turn up for sale onlien, the pokice report will help convince the marketplace they're stolen chips.

Chances of a recovery if you do this are low, but almost zero if you don't.

He is going to file a police report and there he has also put up a ad on Facebook market place hoping someone will see it and offer the chips back. I know there is very little chance of sucess but I'm an eternal optimist.

I won't ship anything high value ever again without at least requiring a signature and likely Insurance. I still hope they turn up.

Last thought, and although distasteful - you might want to offer a no questions asked ‘finders’ reward of a few hundred bucks - something more than they’d get at a pawn shop.

This is up on Facebook market place. I'm not sure how else to get the word out about them.

Police report coming Monday. I was too late on Friday and the office had already closed by then. Unfortunately my neighborhood is not the best. I stupidly left a small bit of cash in my car December last year and my window has already been broken 3 times since. Probably the same guy breaking it over and over trying to "score" again.

Already have an ad up on FaceBook and the Casino Chip group. Lot's of hits but no reply so far...

Did you share the Canada Post picture of the package?

No one asked me, but at this point, maybe change the title of this thread. Let's be honest, if you stole something like this and aren't a complete dumbass (they probably are but let's pretend they're not), you're going to do research. Ultimately, this would lead to PCF. If they find this thread, you're fcked and they go underground. If they don't see this thread and subsequently post to eBay or some random fooker from Canadia pops up on here trying to sell a set, we have our obvious target. Everyone that would click into this thread is now aware of the situation. Let's play it smart from here; don't shoot yourself in the foot, no matter how low the likelihood of them surfacing here is. Hell, it might already be too late.

GL. This sucks.

For some reason I'm not able to edit the title.

Is there an option to have the courier/delivery person not to leave packaged unattended?
In Australia I can't stop Amazon leaving packages on my doorstep which is basically on the footpath/sidewalk. Ridiculous. Our local post office however which also handles the last leg of USPS in Australia will never leave a package there. They take it to the post office for me to safely pick up at my convenience. And UPS checked if I was home before getting my package from the truck.

Whenever possible I choose the method that won't leave my stuff unsafe and unattended. Is that an option there?

Asking for a signature would have avoided this and will be used in the future but I didn't think of it at the time.

I live in an city that's not the safest in BC. lots of crime and homelessness.

Grimace didn't think of it because he didn't know MatrixExplosion lived in a city that's not safe with lots of crime and homelessness. How that was not communicated before shipping was idiotic. Take some responsibility for failure to disclose.

thats a business decision. If something sold on amazon gets stolen before the buyer collects it they will send you another no questions asked. Geez they even let you use an item for up to 90days in some instances and return it no questions asked. The loss is already factored in and is all part of their model to drive users to purchase on their platform. Shipping companies cant offer this because they dont make any money from the sale of the item.

That's because Amazon sells a lot of cheap Chinese junk that they mark up 500 percent. They buy an item for $1 and sell it to you for $5. If your item is stolen, they'll replace it and still make three times what they paid.

You mean...like if the person who stole the package opened them and thought.....wtf is this? And lets just pretend and say, maybe when humans want to find information they search online.

Rancho Agave Chip - PCF first result
Rancho Agave game token - PCF first result
Rancho Agave worth - PCF first results

Let's say they're intelligent and double check to see when their shenanigans generate attention.

Rancho Agave stolen - of course that's now PCF first result.

So...what you're saying is...if our chips are stolen...you think we shouldn't do the one thing that tries to make absolutely sure the chips don't surface publicly and we don't get them back? Gtfoh.

why do people have things delivered to their door sitting outside?
I have all my packages delivered to my work where I am at when they deliver.
