Things that make you Happy (1 Viewer)

There has been way too much BS lately.... time to focus on the happy! My Toastmasters club adopted two 8 year old angels. My contribution was custom embroidered shirts (two for each).

Im really happy that my new December tradition is up this year. Aka Christmas Racing where me and my boys set up a big slot car race track and compete and invite friends, family and guests to try to claim a spot on a leaderboard.

I’d make me specially happy when things are close calls like my older boy beating his younger brother by 0.003 seconds yesterday. Their schoolmates are already waiting for their opportunity to come drive. Last year there was a girl who outdrove all the boys in her class and some of the boys want redemption.

( the app tracks driver/car combo so you have have multiple entries)

I'm going to be a father in July! Daddy NotRealNameNoSir in a few short months. Taking my deep breath and selling off some things to make room for diapers and bottles.

Celebrated with my wife, best friend, and his wife by enjoying the Ultimate Tomahawk Breakfast Platter, an insanely heavy meal.

Congrats! It’s the most rewarding/challenging/hilarious/frustrating/wonderful adventure you can go on.

  • Going to a baseball game with friends
  • Cashing in a poker tournament
  • Receiving sentimental things from friends
  • Hosting home games
  • Seeing my dog being happy
  • Meeting someone new and hitting it off

Just a couple of the many things that make me happy :)

Congrats! It's a challenging but a very rewarding road.

I got these in the mail today, a few barrels of old school orange Nexgens.

Several years back when my boys were younger and just starting to show some interest in poker, I pulled out my old Nexgen college set and we designed some new labels for them - a tournament set for family game night, with a "Movie Monster" theme at my wife's suggestion, as we've always been a huge movie night family.

At the time, I only had a barrel of orange chips, which we used as T1ks, and the boys were always saying how they wanted more so we could be more like the "real" tournaments I hosted monthly. When I ordered the labels, I ordered a bunch of extra $1ks, just in case I ever found more. I've had a WTB ad here on PCF for years, never came across any more.

Until last week. I got a PM with someone who had another few barrels of these available. They arrived today, and I spent some time with my youngest - who's now almost 17 and occasionally playing in my monthly tourney - putting the labels on them.

My boys have both grown into mini chip snobs and prefer my customs these days, but I do hope to get them in play again one day. But even if that never happens, today was a nice little trip down memory lane, and a reminder that this hobby can be more than the next glitzy new premium chip craze - its also about the friends, family, laughs and memories our chips bring in playing around the poker table, and the fun that goes into building sets.

Some fun memories from over the years from family game nights and vacations:

Thanks again @sbrisk2023 !!

My son is in preschool, and brought home this activity. The teacher asked everyone to draw themselves in a snow globe, and asked them what one thing they would want with them if they were trapped in there.

Other kids (including his twin brother) put one of their parents, a favorite toy or stuffy, etc.

He picked a rock.

When we asked why, he said, “I don’t want to be trapped in a snow globe. I’d throw the rock to break out.”

This made me happy.

I also have a semi-custom set of sluggos that were my first set of chips. There is a special feel to bringing them out for special occasions (like the club's 10th anniversary). Gives the chips a chance to play (which makes me happy) and gives players (who probably take nicer chips for granted) a chance to experience how much we have improved.

You had Nexgen chips in college? Damn I’m old. My roommate got a set diamond chips and a 6 deck card shoe for the blackjack game we ran. Everyone thought we were the shit 😂. That was in 1996 though. People would have gone nuts over nexgen chip!

You were still in college in 1996?

Damn, I'm old.
