I was infected with Chipper Fever on November 16 this year.

It all started with me and my friends playing a casual game using some basic chips from a 200-piece set, equally distributed in 5 denominations (ick!). It was then when I asked myself — I wonder, what are real casino chips made of? This question sent me straight down the rabbit hole, so here I am.

Just like Neo learned kung-fu, I now know technology, materials, vendors, what is considered good or bad, what is valued more — and that there is no such thing as enough chips…

I’ve been working up my courage to register and post for quite some time, but now that i finally did it I’m almost ready to pull the trigger on the purchase of my first proper set (likely, Mirage by Tina).

I also want to take this opportunity to say thanks to everyone involved in creating and running this forum. It seems such a genuinely welcoming place amid everything that’s going on in the world.

Fun fact: I was first introduced to poker as a child when my mother’s friend sent us a handheld poker game from the USA, this exact variety:

You can imagine how confusing it was for me to wrap my head around how THIS was related to what I saw in the movies: at a nice table, with community cards, stacks of chips, the whole nine yards.

Happy to become a part of this community!

Welcome to the forums! I had the SAME video poker game growing up and would play it constantly. Was my favorite 'keep me busy in the car' thing to bring on family trips.

Haha this was my introduction. My parents kept it hidden, but kids find everything.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome!

I love it! Is it all mechanical, or battery powered?

Feel free to ask questions on the Tina chips.
I think I have read quite a few topics/reviews on those. I also have a sample Mirage set by Tina that I ordered from Apache. Basically they are “ceramics” with an inlay, durable, bright sounding, not smelly, do not require oiling, spinners are rare, there is an unappealing dimple on the edge of each chip due to the production method, weight = around 10 g, d = 39 mm, l = 3.3 mm…

Is there anything specific you think I need to know before pulling the trigger? It’s a genuine question, I’m not trying to say I know everything about Tina chips and there’s nothing new for me to learn, I’m just excited to share what I’ve learned about them.

Welcome! Surprised to see Ukraine, if you are ok with my asking: what’s the war impact been for you? It’s just a distant story here, as I don’t know anyone in the area until now.

Sent you a DM just making sure you know you can send a message out for any questions.
Cheers
