Hi all, new here and to collecting poker chips but I found this beautiful clay set at my local thrift. Just the weight alone I knew I had to purchase them. There are 150 chips, and the only marking I can find is on the actual poker chip “EKM” so I’m guessing they’re custom. I’m looking for any information on when these could be from, collectability?

Search for diamond mold chips and you'll probably find some interesting threads. Definitely looks like the clay variety and I'd say probably Paulson made based on the bright yellow chip.

The "EKM" is probably just the initials of the original owner if the set. Apparently that was the standard way to hotstamp chips back in the day. If I were to guess these are probably from the 1980s or 90s. I believe paulson sold the diamond mold chips to retail buyers between late 70s and 2002.

These are cool! My guess I’m cash value be about $250-$300.
I'll take the under on that; I' guess something closer to a buck a chip these days. Those ol Paulson cases usually carry their own value too, but there's not a lot of demand for 150 chip cases.

I have a 300 chip case. Care to proffer a FMV?

Nice pickup.
I thought I had some of these (not your hotstamp) and found them.
10.30g Reds & 9.75g Hot Pinks: def lead laced :cool

Welcome and happy hunting! The set will never be big enough.

Yeah my guesstimate was for 300 chip. Never seen a case with a row of 25.

Get someone here to Mill them and get gear custom labels

Ooh, nice chips!

Is changing your name so that your new initials wouldn be EKM on the table? On the other hand, it should be less expensive and less of a hassle to mill them and get some custom chips.

I'll see myself out. 😉

Back in the monogram days the middle letter was usually the first letter of the persons name. The first letter is their middle initial. So these would possibly be for a Kevin Earle McGillicuddy

Traditional style (XZY): First Name Initial - Last Name Initial - Middle Name Initial. In this style, the center initial (Last Name) is usually done in a slightly larger font.

Modern style (XYZ): First Name Initial - Middle Name Initial - Last Name Initial, with all three initials in the same-size font.

Custom poker chips: Seems to be whatever floats your boat.

My apologies for not reviewing for auto correct errors in my original post.

A guy who needs cash doesn't put these chips on eBay for $700 when he's been told they're worth half of that or even less. They're not widely desirable with the initials on them and the person likely to buy them is probably on here and saw this post.

Someone has too much time on their hands to complain on a forum. Nobodies forcing you to buy them so carry on.

They used to sell in the neighborhood of $10 per hundred, so I'd say $30, give or take. But that was back during the covid bubble. These days, who knows.
