Have a 1/2 NLH game with people buying in for 100 on average. 8-10 people. Looking for chip set-ups that make this work- suggestions on denomnations and quantity? I've played around with a few calculators but it's made it more confusing than clarifying.

A $1/$2 game with $100 buy-ins would be considered buying in short, but I guess if the crowd likes to do it, it's on them.
For chip amounts, there's a great thread here for 100-200bb starting stacks, but you could adapt for your own use:
The Beginners Guide To Mapping Out A Cash Game Chip Set - 5c/10c to $5/$10

This is the recommendation for $1/$2 on that page:
$1/$2 Mapping - $400 Max Buy In for 200 Big Blinds

Chip Denominations

$1/$5/$25/$100

Max Buy In Starting Stacks

10x $1 ($10)
18X $5 ($90)
8x $25 ($200)
1x $100 ($100)

Chips Needed - 500 Total Chips

100x $1 ($100)
200x $5 ($1000)
100x $25 ($2,500)
100x $100 ($10,000)

Total Bank: $13,600

For cash games, starting stacks aren't really that critical....just get all the lower denom chips out on the table, and use the leftover high denom chips for top-ups or rebuys.

I agree that at 1 2 I’d expect a larger buy in. Is it a shove fest or a nit fest? Just asking, what’s the usual bet? Is it limit? That might make sense then.

Very helpful, thanks Colquhon!

BPT- not shove or nit-fest, more like a friendly game that doesn’t have a ton of pushes, that plays somewhere between limit and pot-limit. Most playing socially versus serious poker players. I’m happy to enjoy the company while making a few dollars each time. :)

Ok that’s more like a really active .25 .50 game on this site from what I’ve seen, that’s the only reason I commented. Personally I can’t interest my group in cash games, they are darn decent tournament hold em players though. I was asking honest questions, sound like a game I would like to play in.

Sounds like a great game!

If it’s not that deep of a game then I’d do
200 - $1’s
300-400 - $5’s
80 - 25’s
20 - 100’s

Seems like a small buy in for 1-2. Maybe ask if everyone is ok buying in for $120 and give out 20 - $1’s and 20 - $5’s to make it simple and easy.

This is my kind of game and how my game runs, also.

I see a lot of threads about cash games where folks say their games have 10-15 rebuys. :wow:
