Have we finally reached market saturation?? (10 Viewers)

Just happy to play poker with nice, Tina ceramic chips most people here would call inexpensive. But with Paulsons resell price sometimes more than $10 per chip, isn'it interesting to go to a casino, change $$$ for chips and come back home with the chips? or pretend to be a casino and buy them mint at Paulsons?
Someone should really try this

Buying Tinas is self saturating

Can't let this thread die... lol - adding some data (had chat gpt make a web crawling program):

I plotted the official mail showcase thread post count by quarter (1300+ pages) - interesting data, but shows IMO a pretty steady decline back to pre-covid levels. Thought the thread would be a good indicator for purchase volume, but assume there's a dozen compounding variables.

Looks like someone is trying REALLY hard not to design a 15th set.

It’s ok Cratty, you can go ahead and design it, CPC won’t be open for a while ;)

Some people just don’t bother posting in there anymore despite continuing to actively buy/trade?
Also this. Sadly I know I have dropped off posting big time. And I know many other long time posters have too. Lots happen in group chats and things like that now instead when it comes to building sets

Hi, no collector here, just a player. From what I see there's no market saturation, just retention.
Re clay chips which are considered top notch by collectors:
- Paulson RHC lead the market (no pun), with insane prices like $10+ per chip. Likely the result of Paulson's owner selling only to casinos. Can't afford to buy and felt a set, so pure collect & resell value (YMMV).
- CPC also make/made clays, but they're relocating, whith unclear future. So, people bought all available CPC chips and keep them in their vaults just to see if prices will rocket like Paulsons once/if CPC go off business or lower their standards. Strikingly few CPC classifieds here compared to Paulsons.
So, collectors play their game and most players must retort to ceramics, so far not collectible. For players, Tina or SunFly chips are great, and reborn USA brands like Chipco are way to go if (1) quality is here and (2) unbearable tariffs situation.
Just my 2 chips :)

It was unclear, which is why CPC received a lot of last minute orders and not because:

Not strange at all considering that Paulson have produced a gazillion different casino sets and most CPC sets are either off the shelf sets like the Rounders (that anyone can order directly from the source) or personalized custom sets that don’t hold their value in the second hand market (since anyone can order their own personalized set and don’t have to settle for a set of ”Jim’s poker cave” or whatever).

I buy too often but have rarely posted here. Data skewed.

The problem is you can also title this "Popularity of Official Mail Showcase" thread and say it demonstrates that during covid people had more time and conclude it isn't about volume of sales but about users propensity to use there now more limited spare time sharing chip pr0n with internet strangers. There's also growth of comments, potentially, with more users engaged in the thread. so 1 post and 1 mail delivery can spark a conversation that goes 20 messages because people were home chipping.

Can you ask ChatGPT to chart pictures posted per time period instead of posts per time period.

I'm just being a contrarian / data nerd. You're definitely more right than I am.

Some good data! I would argue that new members are certainly not rising to the level of Covid and although I frequently post in that thread, it’s more of a newbie thing and also when we were all home.

Still this is the best data point been submitted well done good idea…

Haha you could plot dozens of things pre and post covid that show the same shape - then conclude that each drives the other and covid was meaningless.
“Look, everytime “x” moves, “y” moves the same!!!””
Therefore x causes y.

By no means am I saying you are doing anything like that or ever would or could or be unwillingly coerced into that. Just stating how absurd things are sometimes.

Well, I'd love to buy new or used CPC chips for a cash set, but they seem difficult to find or order at the moment. Mint/new not necessary as I plan to felt them immediately. But when one sees how Paulsons went up after they locked the brand, one can't help thinking the same for CPC if they close or break the mould. For now it's Tina, Sunfly or Chipco-reboot if they come up with decent chips. Again, not a collector, thanks for your clarification.

you should buy these, he’ll stamp more for you once CPC opens back up and you can order more blanks.
