call my players apes

YOU are the reason I now call my children players apes.

And this sale needs no GLWS. This is a snap grab of a set for the price and the chips. You do not see this mold very often unless it’s cheap plastic.

I hope these sell before I get my money up from donating plasma. Then I’ll buy em.

Fun chips, and from an illegal cardroom in Jamaica, that's a cool backstory.

Are you sure these are not plastic?

Which version of this mold is this? To me they look more plasticy. Don't think they are paulson diamonds. But maybe something else.. these confused me a little

It looks like MD-49 Diamond mold:

This thread helps distinguish between diamond mold (MD-49) and the ubiquitous super diamond / marion diamond / other diamond plastic molds.

This specific post from @Colquhoun in that thread clearly illustrates the diamond shape difference between the clay diamonds and the plastic diamonds (although that is not 100%, as I have seen a clearly plastic "diamond" chip that had oblong diamonds).

Could be the fresh oil that OP put on them? @inapinch is an experienced chipper - I'm sure he can tell the difference between clay and plastic and can clarify.

I have no vested interest in these chips. I just think they are cool! If I had any connection to Kingston, I'd have a hard time passing on them.

Top of the morning! Thanks for asking y’all. These are indeed diamond mold comp clay chips, but not produced by Paulson. They were made by an earlier maker (seems to be Jack Todd Co, according to link above).

These do feel a bit more brittle than Paulson diamonds. But only slightly — I doubt anyone would ’feel’ the difference unless you’ve been shuffling one or the other for a few years. I assume this feel difference is because of their age.

These guys look a lot alike and the middle one almost tricked me when I first got it.

Besides it not having a hot stamp, the top chip has all the classic plastic tells described in above comments.

Biggest imo is the “diamonds”. Plastics will look more square than clay when look at it.

All the cheap plastics will has the nipples and deep wider grooves.

And to the trained eye one can spot the plastics just by the edges. Cheap ones have a more intense “fake” looking shine/color.

What confused me at first was the width of the outer ring. It is wider om these banana chips than the paulson diamond molds I own myself, hence it made me think these potentially were plastic (at keast something different from paulsons). But I also couldnt see the injection dimple and the very rough cross hatching, so obviously also not the cheap super diamonds. So had to be something different. I know there are better plastic versions, and old clay versions but I'm not super familiar with those. Interesting to learn anyways. Old vintage clay it is then!

Sweet sassy molassy…
This sales thread just turned into a cosmic level wanted ad. Any chance you could spare a barrel of those diamond Las Vegas blues? I’ll pay anything. Kidney? Done.

I keep coming back to these. They're so cool.

Is there a starburst equivalent for diamond mold like these? Thinking about my babystakes game, I need fracs for antes.

You and me both!

A search of the classifieds shows some hotstamped diamond sold from time to time. Maybe you could post a want ad for blanks or faded hot stamps and then ask @AK Chip or @Josh Kifer or @ekricket to overstamp a starburst?

Personally, I'd get them to hotstamp a banana on the fracs!
