BEST CHIPS FOR 250 (27 Viewers)

If you don't need them right away and can wait 2-3 months, I would suggest getting into one of the Tina group buys. A lot of options for you to customize and choose labels, etc.

If you need them sooner, Tina sets pop up often in the marketplace for cost or sometimes slightly less than group buy costs.

They don’t look like they shuffle all that great. My suspicion is that these are quite possibly a step down from Tina chips as they seem to have a “clunkier” sound to them and either they are a bit blockier than Tina’s or Hobby-P isn’t a great shuffler. Someone get him a dealer puck so we can get on with the festivities.

While they’re not “pure clay” as the vendor states, I still LOL’ed when HP sort of stammered his way thru comparing them to Paulsons.

OP, state what you need and how you intend to use them and watch some solid chippers make recs and maybe even offer up a sweet beginner set.

IMO the Next Gen Remix are at the best ratio of price to quality, however I did order a couple sets of the new Olympus chips and while my taste is certainly less “refined” than other members here I absolutely love them, they’re definitely the highest quality chips I own though this is admittedly a very low bar to reach

250 doesn’t even really get you a Tina set at 40c-50c a chip (so $120-$150 for 300 chips which is not many) plus you’ll need racks and there’s a $80 artwork fee (unless you get one of the 2 offered “no label fee” sets), if you have any wiggle room in budget to $400-$500 you can definitely get a fantastic setup and get everything you’d need (chips racks cards and a dealer button) from @justincarothers
 
6-7 players, I am willing to go up to 300 dollars for a set. I am trying to get 400 chip cash set. I bought a royal card room sample and a tina greek sample right now and they are on their way.
 
You could do a hell of a lot worse than the Olympus set mentioned above. I myself ordered a 500 chip tourney set and they are fantastic. They shuffle great, stack nice, they are very grippy, and they look classy. They feel and sound good, I just don’t see the downside for the cost (160) including shipping? The Nex Gen remix chips look nice, but they are a little under weight and sooooo slippery, a slight bump of the table and your stacks cascade. I wish they were more grippy, cuz I love the look of them, but they are as slippery as plain old dice chips, can’t do it

Agreed, I wish they weren’t so slippery. They’d honestly be perfect if they weren’t so slippery. I put together a 1000 piece tourney set, and I read somewhere that the slipperiness can be lessened with a teeny tiny amount of sanding which I might try. For the price I don’t think there’s anything that looks or feels better for an unplugged chip. I tried some samples of the Roman Times which are supposed to be the same material and they are absolutely horrendous. Slipping and sliding even more almost like they were wet, don’t look all that nice, and they’re a two part molding- each chip had very noticeable height differences between the parent color and spot color. Gross

Really? You did t find them to be slippery at all, mine stack super nice and don’t fall over at all. They shuffle super nice too
 
I'd grab one of the Justin GB Tinas with the current promo free label saving you $80, you can always pop that label on any hybrid chip of your choice!

Oh ok, that makes more sense, I think they are great too, I’ll be felting them for the first time on 11/1, can’t wait, all my players are looking forward too, everyone seems to like them
 
I’m getting their first go around on Wednesday! We usually don’t have a nice felted table since my buddy moved out of his mom’s house haha

I never know how much opinion to contribute to these threads, where new guys are discussing cheap chips. But I can't resist adding this - they don't sound good. When I was watching the hobbyphillic video about those Olympus chips (and lets be clear, they're China Clays which are plastics that are often smelly - "pure clay" is simply a marketing lie) I thought they sounded terrible. Am I snooty enough to say their sound offended me? Yes I am. They sound terrible!
I'm not saying you need to spend thousands of dollars on chips. Tina hybrids are fine. But for what it's worth, I'd definitely buy cheaper plastic slugged chips before I'd buy China Clays - I'd also look into standard ceramics, used vintage clays, and any other material I could find, before I'd buy China Clays.

I’m sure it’s an experience and preference thing. I tell people I love the sound and feel of my Mazda but if I was daily driving a Ferrari or at least a fun tuner Honda I’d probably have a different opinion. I’ve dabbled in some ceramics but I came to the conclusion most of them have a harsh high-pitched sound that just bothers my ears, with the exception of BRPro chips that I can’t afford lol. Compared to “high quality” sluggos like outlaws or horseshoe casino I much prefer the CC sound and feel to the slugs especially 13.5-14 gram options that are just too heavy to be enjoyable, and also give me the sense I’m going to damage a table. I’ve never gotten the opportunity to really feel some good Paul sons except for a maybe a casino long before I knew much about the chip world. Maybe one day if I find a rack just to collect I’love share this opinion though and scoff similarly lmao eyes locked on the classifieds here
