Things That Are Bullsh*t (49 Viewers)

Yep.

I MUST prepay through an app called ZONOS. It provides me with a code, once paid, to enter into Canada Post online shipping portal. It’s unbelievable and actually ludicrous. I also MUST upload a pic of the goods. They have an AI that scans.

It literally, inside of 10secs, CORRECTLY identified HSI $1 secondary, the value of the chips, the casino they are from, the color they show, even remarking about the red hues on the white. I was completely jaw dropped
That’s crazy!

It’s not just Canada. It appears ALL inbound shipments to the U.S. will need to have DDU paid in advance by the shipper…

This is just a duty Imposed on CDN sellers/shippers of goods of any kind, of any value. Collected by ZONOS on behalf of Murica
There’s not a chance in hell I’ll be eating those costs on future sales, and neither should you.

This will effectively kill the chipping market for international chippers in terms of selling chips back to U.S. based chippers at anything close to market value (at least for commonly available chips).

My advice: international chippers should be choosy in the future when it comes to what they purchase, because re-selling without taking a loss will be even harder than it already was.

My sentiment precisely. I’m sitting at work now, telling my non chipper buddy about the end of my chipping career. It’s over, effectively.

I had to eat costs today on two shipments and another I gotta do on Monday. Then I won’t sell anymore. Luckily, I’ve got a pretty concise collection now. Not too much to sell anyways.

The rate is 35% for me, in Canada

Only a few more years of this I bet, if that. And in the meantime, sell and buy from fellow canadians like me!

what, really?

how and when (and who??) do they prompt you to do this Zonos stuff?
DHL told my 3rd party agent to just send as gift and declare under $150 USD. Sounds like if I did that, I would have got bailed up.

Any screens or anything you can share re: the AI identification? Sounds like not game-able in any way

It’s an application. It’s called ZONOS. It comes loaded with a scanner/camera tool, to look at pics you provide or with pics it can take.

At least for us here in Canada, we must pay 35% of the declared value. Now sure, it’s possible to fudge that up, but in the event border agents want more information or open the package, and demand supporting documents and/or invoices, it gets a bit dicey. What of higher value shipments in scenarios where buyers have purchased insurance etc etc.

International chipping is over for most of us, if you ask me. I was blindsided with this today. I echo what @cpac54 says.

Also, it may be that USA is not doing this to Australia. It started today. Aug29 was launch day for this program.

There is NO WAY to print or acquire a Canada Post shipping label without the ZONOS code, which you get only when you have paid the 35% duty

Seems like for Australia, it's too hard for most carriers including our national carrier who are just refusing to ship anything to the US right now.
I believe it stems from them not having the infrastructure in place to collect tariffs on behalf of US customs

Here is a submission I did today. It miscalculated how many chips there are but got other stuff right

I guess it's not too sophisticated of AI to be able to describe it in that way. If it was the one doing the Item value calculation or if it suggested something THEN I would be way more worried and annoyed.

There is a “manual” entry option as well, which is what I ended up doing. Still HAVE to upload a pic. I declared my own value.

It’s just gonna get risky declaring $25-35 values for duty.

Switzerland was slapped with some of the highest tariffs in the world at 39%. So it'll be that + processing fees going forward. :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:

I’ve always enjoyed buying and swapping out different sets. Most sets I’ve owned for a year or less. With shipping, import/customs fees, etc., it usually means taking a small loss (rarely a win, sometime a big loss).

This will put an end to that - I'm unwilling to eat a 39%+ fee on top and I can't see U.S.-based buyers being willing to pay that for chips they could just find locally for far less hassle.

Honestly, even for rare/high demand items, this will makes things extremely difficult going forward.

Try doing it for real. I paid $12.xx for a $35 gift. They say that, I read that too, but in actually doing it, I had to pay.
My local postal service just decided to suspend everything non-gifty to the US until further notice, but allow for $100 gifts to be sent. No prepaid import duties crap here (yet).

A tariff is a type of duty.

OK, but normally tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.

A relation of mine regularly imports containers of furniture from Europe for her business. She definitely has to pay the tariff herself, in Colorado, not the shipper in Europe.

Meanwhile, the last time I came back to the U.S. from Montreal, I remember having to declare the value of items bought in Canada and pay a duty on them before clearing customs into the U.S.

This was long before the new tariffs.

So just wondering whether the OP is confusing other duties imposed by Canada or the U.S. with the new tariffs. They may be demanding that such other duties be cleared first before entering the country—unless the U.S. has imposed some specialized rule for the new tariffs on Canadian goods.

No, USPS is indeed demanding the new tariffs are prepaid by the shipper. Which is wrong, but that is how they implemented it (which would also give Mr Orange the possibility to claim "See? I told you the other countries would pay!")
