Good morning,

Several times over the last year or so my DIL/Senika has brought up doing the hot ones challenge. I ran it by my son. He thinks it is a great idea. I am going to host a surprise hot ones challenge, family style. My oldest will be in town in two weeks. I am going to try and schedule it while she is here.

I have ordered the S27 hot sauce line up. I am going to research some fun, deep'ish, family bonding questions that we can all answer.

I will probably use chicken tenders. I am still working out the details on how I will set it up for 5-7 of us to complete the challenge.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I am open to any suggestions. I am also open to any questions that can be asked.

I plan on having several cooling agents available, milk, water, ice cream, ect......

The goal is for this to kind of be a "surprise" Hot Ones birthday celebration lol.

I asked AI for some questions and here is what I have tallied so far. If I can come up with enough questions, I am leaning towards each of us answering one question per wing, but randomly drawing the question.

AI Overview

To foster family bonding, try asking thought-provoking questions that encourage sharing and reflection. Some fun and deep questions include: "What's your favorite memory of us together?", "If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?", and "What's one thing you admire most about each person in our family?". These types of questions can spark meaningful conversations and strengthen connections.

Here are some more specific question categories and examples:

Childhood Memories & Experiences:

What's a funny memory you have of our family?
What's the best lesson you learned as a child?
If you could relive one day from your childhood, what would it be?

Family Traditions & Values:

What's your favorite family tradition and why?
What do you think our family is good at?
What's a value that's important to you that you learned from our family?
What's something you wish we did more of as a family?
What's one thing you think we could do better as a family?

Future Aspirations & Dreams:

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? ***
What's a goal you're currently working towards?
If you could have any job, what would it be?
What's one thing you hope to achieve in your life?
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be? ***

Personal Reflection & Growth:

What's one thing you like about yourself?
What's something you're proud of?
What's one thing you've learned recently?
What's a skill you'd like to learn?
What's one thing you wish you could tell your younger self?

Fun & Quirky:

If you could have a superpower, what would it be? ***
If you could have any job for a day, what would it be?

Deeper Questions:

What does family mean to you?
What are some of your biggest fears?
How do you think our family is similar to or different from other families?
What's one thing you've learned about yourself from being in this family?
What do you hope to pass on to future generations?

Additional potential questions

This does not doing fun at all. It sounds like a family job interview. JMHO.

And what does it have to do with hot sauces? I'm not familiar with the Hot Ones Challenge.

There are 27 seasons of this show, First we Feast/Hot Ones challenge. It is pretty entertaining. They are on youtube. I picked a random episode. She is a big fan of the show.

Its more of getting to know each other a little bit better. We all will be participating in the wing challenge. We all will randomly be answering questions.

I'll eat a wing, draw a question, and answer it. Same with everyone else.

I’ve done it twice with friends. Both times were great. We had everyone prepare some questions in advance and then rotated taking turns who asked them.

Plan in advance for it to take a while and how you’re gonna keep the tenders warm/reheat them

That discussion is already in the works.

I have a close friend that is into video editing. He has a few video shorts, ect.....I have asked him to come out and work his magic!

Plan in advance

My oldest is visiting from the west coast in a few weeks. I want to try and plan it around her stay. I am shooting for July 23rd. That should give us enough time to figure it out.

What part of the process did you change after the first one?

Agree that there needs to be at least some more fun or light hearted questions in there, otherwise the vibe will be too serious.

Part of what makes that show so good is how the host has clearly done his research on the guests background, and asks really interesting questions. Things related to the specific person's interests/hobbies or past experiences - like something chipping related if you were being asked the question.

Allocated way way way more time. Both times were with 4 to 5 people. That many people answering that many questions plus time for breaks plus time to figure out the next hot sauce plus time to reheat food… It’s very slow. Which is really nice, but just make sure you set aside enough time for it.

I love the idea!

You can keep wings warm in an oven (at 170) fairly long without drying them out. Less certain about tenders though. Prepping 10 batches would be the toughest part.

If I were local, I'd offer my services to prep the wings for you (so chicken could be cooking while the family is going through the round), and ice cream/drink refills could be handled without anybody missing another players answer. Would work for food. :cool

I did a Hot Ones family challenge with a previous season kit a few years ago. No questions or anything like that, just see how far one could get without tapping out or reaching for the glass of milk. I just put out 10 little bowls, one for each sauce, and then gave everyone chicken nuggets for them to dip. Proud to say I made it to the end without needing milk!

I tweaked the OP. I have added a few questions. I have removed a few questions. I am at 32. I need 40 in total. Lets come up with another 10-15 questions. Then I will have a few extra to work with if I want to make any changes.

I also started a list of cooling agents.

I just put out 10 little bowls, one for each sauce, and then gave everyone chicken nuggets for them to dip.

I will probably do something like this. My goal is to have fun with the family, not kill anyone. This way they can dictate how much sauce they want to apply. I don't know what kind of chicken I will use. Colleen suggested popcorn chicken, blah! I will figure that out next week.

There will probably be 7, maybe 8 of us participating in this. I hope to have a friend recording and taking pictures. I think this will be fun to document.

There are lots of online sources with fun, creative questions that could be used. Search for conversation starters for kids or something like that and add some of those. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

Wings >>> tenders. Especially if you can rope @mike32 into making them.

I agree completely! I think the wings will end up getting wasted. I'll need 80 of them. Tenders will be easy. I haven't decided yet. I wouldn't turn down 80 wings from mike. That might be difficult on a WED lol

You gotta tell me how they taste.

Also, although I would personally lean toward wings, I agree there would be a lot of waste if your family doesn't "polish them off". Chicken breasts, with a little pounding, and a corn starch to egg to panko crumbs dredges would give snap and crunch, while absorbing the sauce in a neutral fashion.

...downside: its a lot of work for 80+ pieces.

I contemplated making my own chicken tenders. I am pretty sure that I will be visiting Sam's club!

Hopefully some or all of these will make an appearance at the meet up

I suggest you watch the video below, this group tested the sauces for scoville units and compared ththe numbers against what they were actually listed on the show. Very enlightening.
Often, scoville units are listed for the pepper, and not for the sauce, which can be totally different. Makes sense...I've had a scorpion pepper sauce that was not as hot as a habanero sauce, but the scorpion pepper itself is much hotter than a habanero.

Also, don't be fooled....there's a reason DaBomb is always knocking people around. It's WAY hotter than the number 9 and 10 sauces. I think because they want to see the guests squirm for two more questions. If they put it at the end, the show is over anyway, and it's better TV to have them choking and gulping milk while trying to talk.

Check out the Hot Ones test: (you can skip 2:17to 8:33 unless you want a deep-dive about the evolution of the pepper)
