Hey All! Everyone on this forum has been great so far and it's an awesome community, thanks for helping a new player like me out.

So I run a cash game, about 6-10 players (very few times do we have 10), we play .10/.20 (we're all broke college students lol) with a $10 buy-in.

We're all relatively newish, but have gotten the game down and have had a couple home games go good recently, so we've been talking about a 10 person tournament (I have more questions about this, but I'll save them for another time).

Basically what I'm getting to is, I was lucky enough to land a nice job for the summer so I'm going to invest in a cash set, and eventually a tournament set (later down the line).

What I've found so far:
- BRProPoker Semi-Custom denominations: What I like about this is having a potential .5 .25 .50 1.00 chips for my low stakes cash game. (Haven't gotten samples yet)
- Apache - Love all these styles, thinking of these for my future future tournament set.

I haven't done that much digging into chips, I want to hear what PCF thinks, I'm always open to suggestions. I apologize again if this is a FAQ I missed.

TL;DR - Wants a cash set for low stakes, and a tournament set for the future, but unsure.

Can’t go wrong with either option. People love both BRPro and Apache.

I personally have a set of the majestics from Apache and they’re great.

Id recommend going with a breakdown similar to this 100/100/200/200/80 (0.05/0.25/1/5/25). You don’t need both $.25 and $.50. If you want to go cheaper then maybe try bumping your game up to a $.25/$.25 game with a $20/25 buy in and you won’t need to buy nickels.

I think if you're going using a 10c chip, you don't need a 20c chip.

I'd check out the classifieds section for some of the Tina ceramics that show up pretty often. They're pretty affordable, although BRPro ceramics are a lot nicer.

My thought process is that if I need higher stakes I can just purchase more chips for higher stakes down the line if needed.

I run a $.25/.25 game and always get all my quarters and dollars on the table (120/200) I have 260 $5s in my set and usually get 1-3 barrels in play.

If you want to trim down, maybe get 100 5s and 20 $25s. Just to cover a bigger night.

If you ever bump up the game to .25/.50 on a whim then my original suggestion will easily handle it.

Starting stack id suggest for a $.1/.2 game:

10/10/7 ($.05/$.25/$1) for $10. Any additional you could give in $1s or $5s.

I like to give my starting stack as 10% of my total set for my lowest denoms so if there are 10 buy ins, then everything is in play. Any subsequent buy ins would be using your higher denom chips ($1s and $5s)

To be honest, if you're playing a $10 buy-in, I would drop it to .05/.10 blinds which would give everybody 100bb instead of just 50bb. 50bb is a bit short-stacked for a cash game, in my opinion, and a 200bb buy-in is even better which you could do with .05/.05 blinds

In regards to a chip set, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the group buys Justin does over on his Broken Arrow Cardroom Supply page, but if you have the patience to wait a couple months, you can get some really, really nice hybrid ceramic chips that would meet your needs and either no-mold or card mold chips for even less.

For a .05/.10 game with a $10 buy-in I would start with a barrel of nickels, a barrel of quarters and 4 singles for each player, but I'm a "more chips" person.

If you want less on the table, you could start with 10 nickels, 18 quarters, and 5 $1 chips, but I think at these stakes, that's a bit too sparse and will result in a folks having to make change often which can slow down the game.

Based on what you've posted, I doubt you'd need $25s, but probably a few $5s just in case. Skip the 20c chips, they're totally not needed. Either go (.05/.25/$1/$5) or (.10/.50/1/5) or even (.10/.50/$2).

Not sure where you're looking, majestics should have a 5c option.

Apologies I meant the royal's, I love the 43mm style, they just feel different. I'm thinking of just getting the standard denoms and playing with them in cents e.g. $25 = 25c

I don't see how it could be sparse. Do tell in what situation. My game is limited to 8 players and we typically do a $50 buyin with some opting for $100. After the initial buyin all rebuys are $25 chips. I never use a whole rack of any denomination.

I’d like to have more useable chips on the table than rebuy chips. Add more workhorse chips of $1s and $5s at least imo

OK, if it makes you happy. For me I like the initial buyin change and all rebuys big chips. It makes cashing out easier to count less chips.
