Heavy slugged Chips... used. All of them have the totally annoying edge splits. They're hard to see (look close), but if it doesn't bother you like it does me, no problem. They still shuffle beautifully!

It is apparently an affliction to these particular chips, perhaps hard use? I culled these out of my set and swapped them. It was only the $5's. I didn't even notice until a friend pointed it out... which completely did me in.

IMO, It’s just how bud jones chips age… they don’t really wear but eventually they crack.

What caused the splits? I’ve been wanting BJ-SJ $5s, but am second guessing this desire now.
I play at Canterbury Park which has those same Bud Jones S2 chips. They just replaced the $1's & $10's. All other denomination are still in play after 24 yrs of heavy use in a very popular card room.

I would guess that something like 75% of all the chips in play were Original chips & of those, maybe 5% were/are cracked.

No reason to second guess your desire. These chips are very nice and will wear 1000% better than any compression molded chip. They are basically indestructible. I don't see how you would ever crack one in a home game unless someone was really trying hard. If you are buying new it isn't an issue at all and if you are buying used, just buy a few extra and sort out the cracked ones and sell/toss em.

Problem solved

Thank you for the information. I was hoping these cracked chips were just mishandled or had some strange temperature fluctuations that caused stress fractures.
