Pomona PD cracking down (1 Viewer)

Locally, we used to have a place called Kings on the outskirts. It was a full house rented to some players who turned it into a raked poker house. Sometimes would run a 100/200 cash game.

Had a chef that made a menu that changed daily.

It got busted one night and hit the news, a local DJ that did a FM morning show was playing, and some lawyers. The two individuals running it got destroyed, and the owner of the house got charged and the house taken because he was aware of the use.

It later came out a player lost his entire paycheck one evening, told his wife, and she decided to call the cops daily until it was shut down. Blew up big time.

We have 8-10 card houses going, but most have kept it a bit lower key and stakes since.
This is always what I think of when I hear of games getting busted. Somebody lost a bunch of cash or got kicked out for being a drunken a-hole then decides they were cheated, mistreated or both. Then it's time to take it to "eff those guys" and call the cops.

That or some sheriff, chief or DA decides it time to crack down to gain some popularity.

We had another one where two gentlemen kicked down the door, robbed the place, and every player there.....

The facepalm moment was that the game had cameras and it was recorded, and they robbed the place an hour after both losing everything and didn't change outfits. Just tossed on masks. So... Yeah. Took about an hour to get them arrested.

This thread. Do you have any chip pictures to show us or are you going to continue to waste our time?
I got chu

totally my thought, or that a cop lost a game and decided their investigation was over lol.

Unraked and perfectly legal doesn't necessarily mean the game won't get raided by a hevaily-armed tactical unit.

this is absolutely true, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was raked, and honestly I dont particularly care either way. However the cops who are called in to raid dont really know either way, not really their job and above their paycheck, its the judges job to sort that out.

So California allows social games, recreational marijuana and the occasional riot where a city gets burned down.

Kinda makes me wonder what kind of debauchery was going on at those games.

Seriously, though -- I wonder if the city's code is more strict than the state.

Only raked / fee collection games.
Pretty simple…don’t take a rake, play on!
I’ll say this is an interesting enforcement of the law given it happens to open the door for them to civil asset forfeiture and grab anything they can get away with. See another members story here somewhere who got screwed over.

The only time where you have to PROVE YOUR INNOCENCE to get your own stuff back.

GL proving any grouping of cash or chips was for sure not the rake
Or get someone pissed off at you like someone else mentioned likely that they wana burn you and tell them the money in your bedroom was the rake from the start.

Yah

Interesting how all these where they can hold your crap in perpetuity seem to be top of the docket for a warrant.

Are compulsive gamblers victims when they go to a casino? Or buy lotto scratch-offs? Are alcoholics victims when they buy liquor from a state run store? Are fat people victims when they buy Twinkies from Walmart?
I check several of these boxes. Where can I collect my settlement I’m surely entitled to receive?

What part of “perfect legally” did I miss??
I don’t know what you mean. As far I can tell, the game from the thread I shared was perfectly legal, yet it was raided, the member was robbed thousands of dollars worth of cash and items, and was railroaded into pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

Why can't the police just leave the felon on White Avenue and the person with a no-bail arrest warrant on Indian Hill Boulevard alone!

And the truth comes out…

Imagine there’s actually more to the story. I am SHOCKED. SHOCKED!!!! I can’t believe these little piggies weren’t on standby to go raid a “perfectly legal” game. This is probably just a total anomaly…in both situations.

I want to know why the felon had the gun, though. Isn’t that illegal??? Erich, while you’re making your complaints to council and the governor, you need to advocate for more gun laws so these felons can’t get guns. :x

Well, to be fair, the linked articles report these as "illegal" games, but don't say why. The charges are listed, but people are innocent until proven guilty.

To me, this thread is akin to bitching about getting busted out of a tournament after flopping top set and villain going runner-runner for a flush. If you play the game, it's a risk you take.

nah I like guns lol. The only complaints to the governor have nothing to do with gambling lol.
